'89 S4 For Sale
Hi all! I unfortunately have come to the realization that I must sell my S4. Our parents are all in poor health, our spare time is not our own these days and I have absolutely no time to keep up with the 928. It needs to go to a good home where it will be properly attended to.
It is triple black, 180,6xx miles currently, the interior is 9 out of 10, no upholstery tears, it has minor dash/pod cracks, exterior 7.5-8 out of 10. Upgrades include Paul Champaign steering wheel and center armrest, a 90-95 analog clock, illuminated express up/down window/sunroof/rear wiper switches as designed here by Hans, a Jager shifter, and an Alpine head unit with a remote 6 CD changer.
The transmission was recently replaced with an '88 automatic as the one in the car failed on me and the cost to repair it was more than I wanted to spend. Therefore it does not have the 2.54 differential, rather the 2.20 that came with the '88. There were no used '89 transmissions available at the time this was done.
There are a few issues I will disclose here: The actuators/diaphragms for the HVAC system need to be replaced and I have all the parts. The A/C compressor has a front seal leak, again I have the parts, no time. The carrier bearings on the replacement transmission are noisy and there is a minor leak at the torque converter seal. One cam seal on the driver's side cylinder head has a very minor leak.
I have repair/maintenance documentation going back to the original owner of this car. I replaced the fuel lines, pan gasket and engine mounts in mid-2006 as well as replacing everything under the intake, with the exception of the IAC.
There is a Porkensioner installed, I have the original tensioner for you purists . There is a PKlamp installed on the flexplate flange and the driveshaft has never moved when I have checked it. The timing belt and WP were replaced when I did the Porkensioner in I believe 2010, but I will have to check the records. The Hall Sensor and power steering hoses were replaced at the time as well.
In any case, you get the idea... I can go into more detail with any interested parties. I am asking $9.5K but am open to any offers. I will post pic's soon, my avatar is the engine in the car and it still pretty much looks like that.
OH!! And I have the complete factory service manual set as well...
Thanks for looking in.
Quick edit... New Behr OEM radiator in 2011.

This is an incredibly clean car that I have always seen in top condition whenever I have visited my family and friends in San Diego. I hope the folks will be okay. Good luck with the sale and I really hope another Rennlister carries the tradition on of buying this car and religiously maintaining it.

Bill,
Sorry to hear of your decision and your parents health. You have kept this car in great shape. Good Luck, and may another rennlister grab this beauty.

Thanks guys. These things happen to all of us once your folks reach a certain age. We're coping the best we can.
Just remembered another thing; I put a new windshield in it in 2011.

Just a gratuitous bump. Ideally I'd like to see this car go to a 'Lister as people here really appreciate these beasts and will take care of it. I'll take offers, price is not set in stone.

Added pictures
Added to the original post, here's a few more that I couldn't fit in the first post.
A few things I remembered: Shocks are Koni Red adjustables, the door sills have stainless steel accents purchased from Nicole at Hooked on Cars, and the exhaust system is not stock from the cats back. It is a combination of 3" and 2.5" pipes with 2 resonators and a Magnaflow 2 in 2 out 2.5" muffler. It is louder than stock but not annoying nor does it drone. Engine has ALWAYS passed smog here in CA.

Sad to hear you'll have to let it go, Bill. But life changes, and with it your priorities. You have to do what's best for you and Amy. If selling the 928 is what that is, then so be it.
I hope it goes to someone who appreciates it as much as you did.
Best to you, Amy, and the parents!
