New 928 Owner
Well I have been a long time 944 owner (mostly turbos) and an opportunity popped up to pick up a 928 this past week, and I decided to jump on it. The car is a bit rough around the edges, but the bones are there for me to work with. There are a few problems to address right away, sloppy shifting, a noisy power steering pump, and some minor damage to the body on the passenger side. Then there are the cosmetic issues, inside and out there are plenty of things to fix. And with all of the work in front of me I am excited to have the 928 in the garage soon.
Car is a 1985 928S, 5 speed, black over burgundy (original exterior was silver, may have to correct that at some point). Odometer reads 107k, but as I learned with the 944 cars, the listed mileage might be a bit off due to fragile odo gears. I want to focus on the mechanical issues first, but I think the car has lots of potential.
I don't have any pictures in the garage yet (next to my current 951) but here are a few from the seller:

well
100K, and shifter mechanism, I say use 'and' instead of 'or'! And add bushings.
Not difficult to improve, but not likely to get nice solid shifts with the OEM setup. And it is exacerbated if you go with a short-throw shift handle eventually.
Sportier options are available via Lizardshifter and Jadz928 shifter designs.

Thanks all for the welcome and comments on the car. She looks decent from 20 feet, but I will work to improve that with time. I am handly with an orbital and 3M compounds, but most of the issues with the paint on this one cannot be buffed away.
I have been searching old posts and reading about the shifter issues, seems there are a few common wear points. I have not decided if I am going to "upgrade" or just go back to all fresh stock parts. But the shifter is the first job I am going to tackle (and a mini service of fluids and filters).
I would like to bring the 928 up to SITM, but I am not sure I will have all the minor issues taken care of by then, but if I do I might take a day trip to join in the fun.
I am not Ian from 944online, just another Ian.

Welcome to the NC Shark Tank. There are a lot of us hanging out around the state. Not sure if SITM is in the cards this year. I may register at the last minute and drive up just for day on Saturday. Car loves to get out and run...
