I too stumbled across an opportunity trading my 86' 951 for an 88' S4. I'm pretty happy with the trade but I miss my mileage from the turbo. Aside from that a trade I'd do again. Both cars have their pluses and minuses but the 928 is as much fun as the 951 but more comfy and with more bells and whistles.

Potential, I agree that it is the proper word to describe this 928. I hope I can bring some of the potential out of her.

Well thankfully I didn't give up my 951 to purchase this 928. It will be interesting to drive the two cars back to back, but it won't be a stock vs stock comparison because the 951 is riding on a very stiff street Koni setup (450 lb springs / 30 mm torsion bars / big sways), and the 928 is currently riding on very soft (aka worn out) shocks, and stock springs.

And she is home, tucked in the garage. Now to establish a to do list.

Thats a nice pic...i went from a guards red 951 to a black 928 S4. Although my 951 was slightly modified with a 3" exhaust, lindsey racing chip, tial wastegate and boost control set at 18psi. The 928 S4 feels just as fast documented by the accu-assometer and stupid grinocollecto-gram. All you need now is a proper porsche banner which i can make you to go above the cars on that wall.

Do you make banners? If so I might be interested, I do need some more garage art.

Once I get a few things squared away on both cars I look forward to doing some back to back driving comparisons. For now comparisons are a moot because the 928 cannot shift quickly, and the 951 has a leaky crossover pipe preventing boost from spooling propperly. I wonder if the local PCA would let me bring them both to an auto-x, so I can run half the laps in one, half the laps in the other.

Intersting to hear someone with rescent experience in a stock S4 vs a modded 951. Should be a pretty equal match and I am guessing which one wins depends on how tight or open the track is. I personally think the butt dyno is a little more accurate than people give it credit for. A shop dyno can't take gearing, tires, aerodynamics, high speed stability, brakes, etc. into account for performance measuring.

Great color combo IMHO, just wish it were the original on mine . I've been in a real quandary about a repaint- go back to the original garnet red metallic (or some other maroon I like better) to match the unpainted jambs, engine compartment, etc., or just redo the black as best I can. One way or another new paint is in the near future.

And it looks like the list of 928-ers in the area is growing! I grew up (so to speak) in Hickory so I know the area well.
