The 3-peice Speedlines were my first clue, then the rear section exhaust I put on the car back in '96 that replaced the rear resonator with a pair of straight thru pipes. The final clue was the GTS mirrors I had put on the car 'back when'.
Here it is in '96 at a Metro NY PCA Concours at Westbury Gardens.....

But lurking through the fourms, I am starting to feel that most 928 people have kinda above average luck, so rock on and keep that luck going

That's an awesome story !! I still can't believe it was in your area and not across the county. Enjoy you have a beauty on your hands and glad you finally got it back.

I attended the F1 races at Silverstone and Hockeheim in 1990 where Lotus were selling some memorabilia........A bright yellow jacket with Lotus insignia came home with me and hangs in my closet to this day

My wife came in the garage and said 'look what I've found', and shared a few photos shot in 1987 that I was certain had been lost. Is that a great looking car, or what?

In a country the size of the US, stacked with zillions of cars and probably half of the worlds 928 population, you walk round a corner, see a car you think you used to own umpteen years ago, manage to catch the thing up, the car drivers stops and does not shoot you, he actually wants to sell it and you want to buy it- I wish I could have got $10 on the odds of that happening!
Truly amazing- odds 10 billion to 1?
I get up this morning, forgot to set the alarm clock, discover there is no breakfast cereal in the fridge, find out I have lost my office security pass and that at least 3 birds [maybe a flock?] with the ****s have crapped on my 928 in an 8 hour overnight time span- durrgh!
Some folks get all the luck! Enjoy

Just love telling the story...
Since it's return to the garage, I've been immersed in a mechanical freshening and detailing of the car. I've pulled down all mechanicals from the clutch rearward, replacing parts where needed and cosmetically restoring all pieces to better than it was 18 years ago as I discovered that what I thought was road grime was actually cosmoline.
Those mechanicals are now back in the car, and I'm moving forward to the motor and front suspension. Happy to post pictures if anyone is interested...

I'll post a few photos of the mechanical refresh of the S4 that is still in progress. I'm now moving forward on the car to the motor/front suspension.

Here's a few for starters. The transaxle tag was taking the original and replicating it on vinyl that you can print on with an ink jet.
