NEW YORK TECH SESSION APRIL 14!
Due to overwhelming demand and a great time last time, please join us again for another tech session hosted by 928 OC Member Pete Katos at his shop in Smithtown, New York. Pete has graciously offered use of his lifts, tools and knowledge once more! If you have any projects from an oil change to something bigger, let us know in advance and we'll see who can help!
Starting at 10AM at Pete's Stop Automobile Care, 303 Maple Ave, Smithtown, NY 11787. It's a Sunoco Station on the corner of Maple & 111. Park across the street at NAPA.
Let me know you are coming-email me back or text or call: (516) 330-7987. If you want to bring food or drink, please let me know. We have plenty of options to order as well.

Great, I think my Son and I can make it again. Now an oil change on the other car is in order. Pete is so great and the folks there the last time really made it happen. I just hope I am done with taxes by then.

I need my front wheel bearings replaced. Anybody with know how of this replacement procedure coming to the event?
Otherwise I will be doing them at home, so if anything breaks or is missing I am stranded in my own garage.

If you have a write-up, have the parts and any special grease/etc., come on down and let's get it done.

A block of wood and a good rollhead bar will gently work the bearing caps off. I've also used a surplus piece of 3/4" oak flooring and a hammer to drive the caps off. The oak flooring method leaves no marks on the bearing cap.
Get wheel bearings and new seals, a couple cans of brake-clean, a few pairs of gloves. You'll have the wheels off and will also need to remove the calipers. It's easier if you also remove the disk/rotor from the hat, and you'll want a good impact Phillips screwdriver for that unless the screws were last installed with a smear of anti-seize. I like the Redline CV1 grease since it so nicely matches the color of the original factory grease. There' a Mobil-1 synthetic grease that's identical in consistency and appearance. Not a bad time to replace brake pads if they are on their second half of life, WYAIT.
Have fun!

Hey Mike, tell Pete to call me in the morning, saw he called and didn't remember to hit re-dial. Sorry about that.

You'll need the matching slide hammer to use the Porsche tool as intended.

Fsharp, that's what we did to my car at the last NY session at Pete's, so hopefully yours will go even smoother than mine. You are going to absolutely love the sound. My install would have taken half an hour, except that I elected to replace the pain-in-the-neck O2 sensor.
I snapped a couple of the bolts, so I would suggest buying at least 4 new ones with nuts. It sounds like the NAPA store across the street from Pete's will be closed, so you won't be able to run over there like I did. The PET should be able to tell you the size.
I replaced the retaining ring that goes in between the cat and the pipe, but I didn't see much wear on my old one.
I also bought 4 new rubber hangers, I think you want to definately replace these and they're cheap. I think I only used two, but the one closest to the end gets twisted because the Borla hanger isn't exactly parallel with the hanging hardware (unless you can figure out better way to install). I'm glad I have extra.
I'm going to try and make it on the 14th. Great time with a great bunch of car guys.

I just googled and redline only has CV 2 grease.
Nothing close by me has it.
What's the difference between redline CV 2 synthetic grease and CV 2 synthetic grease with Moly?
Which one is better to use for wheel bearings?
