Retrofitting wiper arm spoiler
#16
Only the back requires modification - fronts fit directly.
reused the side pin from the old rear wiper, opened up the hole one side, filled the middle with a section of polycarbonate wrapped in black vinyl.
This wiper is quite a bit longer than stock - cleans the whole rear windshield vertically.

We sell Icons all the time with great results. Sometimes customers ask for the originals. IIRC the arm with the foil is NLA but I will check on Monday morning.

GTS cars have metal wiper spoilers (on the wiper blade support frame - not on the arm) a bit more integrated looking - no where near so wide.
At really high speed those will create a lot of drag - might deflect the wipers in a non-intended way.
BTW since I have converted to Bosch IKON's I have a set available in good condition (LHD) if anyone is interested? You need you own stock wiper arms.

You asked for pictures - didn't have any...
Took some new photos:
Say $50 for both + actual shipping to you - if you want them you get first choice?
They are in good shape, paint is nice (std matt black) - they are off my car - '94 GTS - so about as new as used ones come - and they aren't avalable new AFAIK
The replaceable blades on these are ancient - though they look OK - easily replaced, comes with wiper arm mounts 1/2 installed (loosely fitted). No damage
For pricing comparison - it seems 928 Intl sells regular used (non GTS) blades for $20 each.
Otherwise who else wants them?

Thanks Again

An alternative ? Top pic are of the stock wipers on the 94. Bottom pic is a set of euro VW Lupo wipers that sit tighter to the base of the windscreen. T

James - you can easily make your own...
Remove & save side pin from old rear wiper
Remove IKON cover, remove existing axle pin. Drill out/countersink left side of bracket so old pin head will lay flush - create filler for mid section to brace sides... could use plastic, metal, polycarbonate - shape to match proifile - install and drill tight clearance hole for pin. Paint or wrap in black to match.
Install pin and the cover over pin.
Except in use - the pantograph hinge obscures most of this area anyway.

Oh so downforce for wipers!
So i guess it's like a tag for cops, since they'll know that if you're sporting a windshield wiper arm spoiler, that you drive fast regularly!

Mine looks the exact same as yours Same 3 rivets, same placement, same spoiler. 85 euro.
And:
At higher speeds (not super fast, highway speeds) the air goes off to the sides of the windshield. It will lift the blade off of the glass at the outer part of the sweep, especially on the return trip when the blade is tipped so that it can be easily lifted.
The spoiler gives a bit of downforce to overcome that.
Edit: Alan beat me to it, but I have had it happen at reasonable highway speeds. It's worse if you use the "Winter Blades" that have the rubber covers over the frame.

What is the purpose of this "spoiler" may i ask??
