Default Excellent press for the 928! (Hagerty, Amelia Island)

Probably an enzo, but worth bringing up again...

Hagerty did a "round-table" Porsche market brief at Amelia Island.

Here' what they had to say about the 928 (@ 34min 30 sec):

Rob Sass at Hagerty is the fella I wrote a 928 article for. (LINK to Article) He's a 928 fan.

I'm going to have to look up Dave Kinney. He's my new friend!

The 928 has always been one of the best kept secrets of the automotive world, press like this isn’t helping.

The number of “good” cars dwindles each year, I would hate to see the 928 really take off as a “collector” car, prices skyrocket and more and more are mothballed away in big collections like so many other great cars.

I like our community, most cars are driven and appreciated, the way a good car should be.

I read ya, Hacker. Look at it this way... bad press is better than no press at all.

I thought it had a rather positive spin.

This should help you Jim, with your early OB's. Nice to see people appreciate our cars.

Really makes you glad if you have a nice one. I am.

Sports Car Club states that all pre '73 autos are the collector cars for now with varying values obviously.

A 1971 911T is worth a lot more to a collector in the same condition than a 1986 911 Carrera. My 1986 911 will suck out the headlights of my friend's 911T.

When the 928 model hits 40-45 years, then we may see something big happen with values.

Until then I sgree with Hacker, best kept secret, and keep making our nicer!

My take is that the 928s are going away precisely because they are considered to be cheap throw away cars. Buy them cheap, use them up, throw away and repeat. Because it sure doesn't make sense to keep them since they are not considered worthy of investing in.

I know it's a catch-22...... how do we elevate them a few notches without the drunks at Barrett-Jackson taking notice?

pretty cool discussion. It feels good to have a 1978 "with that op art interior"

I'm going to guess that the engines in the really low mileage 928s that are sitting around are virtually junk from the coolant turning acidic and not getting changed.

Realistically, the only value they will have is as non-driver collector cars.

55,000 mile GTS....and with 55,000 miles, this one did get driven, some.

In case you don't know what you are looking at....that corrosion pit is halfway under the sealing ring of the head gasket. Failure is imminent.

More of same.

Still more pictures of grief.

Last time I needed a 4.7 engine, I took 6 of them apart, to find one that I could actually rebuild. Here's one of them....and not the worst!

That is the top of the cylinder eaten up!

Welcome into my world....

Every time I see a thread about people shopping around for the cheapest coolant they can find, I just sit and laugh. Pictures like these makes the Porsche factory coolant look like the "all time bargain" at only $40 per gallon!"

I think the notches are directly proportional to the amount of beer consumed. Right... a catch 22.

Hi Greg, could you help me understand what you are driving at?

I have a few "garage queen" collectors in my local car group. Thankfully most of them are into domestic stuff or air cooled.

LOL - after buying my 2003 Denali I flushed out the entire coolant system with 10 gallons if distilled water and re-filled with the same Mercedes stuff I use in everything else.

How about this one?

Or this?

This?

Maybe this?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't the "collector market" that let 928's like these rot away.

Our 928's could use a stronger collector market, to help bring 'em back. I gotta feeling they might drive them a little too.
