Default steering bearings

I recently took off the steering wheel put on a turn signal assembly and it doesn't seem to turn off automatically after a turn. There is some slight play in the wheel, so when pushing the wheel to the left the wheel's tab grabs the signal and everything is normal. But wiggling the wheel i can feel and hear the play as if there are bearings or something loose on the steering wheel. You can shake the steering wheel and feel it slightly loose. The nut holding the wheel of course i torqued that pretty tight.

How involved is replacing whats causing this ?

Thank you very much for suggestions.

it sounds like you need a top shaft bearing its pretty easy to remove with a small chisle and hammer the bearing will crack to pieces.
To remove the old bearing,
first remove the steering wheel,
then replace the nut,
put a good set of locking pliers on the nut and pull it,
this will lift the shaft up ,
and then you slide off the E clip ,
once this is done then tap the edges of the bearing to drive it out
once this is done .
try not to let pieces fall down the shaft it will be the ***** and the bearing pieces.
Fit the new bearing carefully.
Then put the nut back on the shaft,
pull up then fit the E clip,
then remove the nut and fit the steering wheel

Stan, On the same topic... Not sure if my symptoms are related to the above fix or not. When I turn the wheel to the left I can feel a very slight "crunching" just at the beginning of the turn. It does not continue through the rest of the turn. It does not do this when turned to the right... Strange? or what...? Wheel feels tight and no issues tracking the car down the road.

Any help? Thanks in advance!

Joel for you it sounds like you need to adjust the turn signal switch height.
remove the lower column trim and take a peek up from the bottom with a light,
the horn tab should just be touching the horn ring ,
if its pressed more than this ,
then the grinding you describe will happen and eventually the tab will shear off.

Setting the TS height should always be done after pod removal or steering wheel removal or both.

NOTE the way to tell if the upper steering column bearing is bad,
is if you are able to move the steering wheel off its axis.
otherwise pushing up or down or left and right should produce no discernible play

Yeah know what... that would make sense since I just removed the steering wheel to straighten it after having an alignment Thankfully it sounds like an easy fix

Thanks again!
