$500 1986 Porsche

I know of the car. I am the guy that met my friend at a "mechanic" in South San Diego to see if the car was worth getting in its condition. I told him to get it when I saw the sport seats.
I could stick a motor in it in a heart beat but I have enough projects. Its an 86.0, and was a beautiful car years ago I am sure, with that color combo. Sometimes it makes me sad to see them like this.
No Rub strips. Pretty darn good dash and interior panels and pieces. Timing belt is stripped, so something stopped quicker than the belt could, but the car is low mileage.

Got your message Neil. Thanks.

See what Jim said earlier, you need space to store the parts you take off, and make shipping boxes and crates, and whatever else. Do you have the Porsche PET to identify parts by part number? A 928 is not the best way to get into auto parts dismantling and recycling - you are going to be dealing with folks like those here on Rennlist or Pelican that have much more knowledge than you - and you will end up with a driveway full of parts you can't give away.
If you want to learn the dismantling and resale business, try civics or some other japanese popular auto.
Just my 2c worth.

For bottom feeder cars I tend to classify them using the 1, 2, 3 method based on the driveline, ext, int. There is usually problems with some of all three on a bottom feeder car, but the ones that need all three, and in significant amount, I pass up. this one has the trifecta, so I wouldn't even consider it.
Usually what I find worthwhile is a 2 of three where it's got thrashed int, ext but a good running engine/trans. sometimes it's 1 of three with maybe a good int but bad paint and drive. My last bottom feeding was a 968 which was filthy on the inside, but basically sound. The ext was crap and the drive was ok, but not perfect. I paid $1800 and now it's just about finished at under $6k.
This car is going to need the full Monty to refurb. By the time a guy is done getting this in decent condition, you might as well spend $8-9k on a nice driver, and just regular mx to keep it up.

Thanks Neil, I was thinking that if it was in our back yard it might be great for the two of us. However with it accross the country, no way. Besides, it is all I can do to get my own where I want it. Was working on the intake and had to just put it back together as I ran out of energy. Now, I am going to just have to wait till after the move to do anything.
Cheers,

Any car can be put back together. Several of the birdcage Maseratis were 'rebuilt' using little more than a few pipes of steel, an engine case, and some spit. The difference is the Birdcage is worth half a mil per copy or more, and the 86 928 will top out under $8k

Yep not IF it can be done but SHOULD it be done. Common comment heard at car shows where cars are for sale... You could not build it for that.....My retort is maybe you should NOT have built it !!!!!! That is what Doc is saying sure it can be done....but only a fool would do it !!
