Thanks to both of you.

Jeff, my car is an 82 with the old style motor mounts. Mine aren't fresh, but I'm ok with their condition. Just not ok with the gasket. I have thought over the studs, and have decided to stick with the bolts and loctite.

Ok. Are you going to do the gasket? I can bring the motor suspender if you need it and a really good torque wrench for the suspension bolts, etc.

Jeff, if there is s lift available there I would love to do it. Looks like Rich is going to check with Dave to see if it is possible.

OK. I'll throw the thing in the back of the car and you guys can use it if you want. It sits on the fenders and holds the engine up so you can take the crossmember off.

Like this one but only suspends at the front of the engine, not the rear. The TT and the trans take care of that part. Has worked well for me several times.

If we can get some very knowledable volunteers perhaps it would be possible but the consensus is that it may be too involved to perform at such a busy event. Having said thay if we have some go getters committ to helping who know what their doing maybe we can get done quickly. I too need to do the trans pan, oil pan and valve covers.

Rich

Trans pan is no problem. Hour at the way most from very start to finish. I'll bring my pump for fluid in case shop doesn't have power pump.

Oil pan gasket if you are on a lift, 5 hours is possible if you are alone, 3 with help. 1.5 with 4 guys who have done it many times. You'll also need a way to suspend the motor when you do the oil pan gasket. I am bringing my motor holder in the event someone ends up doing the oil pan gasket. Also, you'll want to get an alignment afterwards since you are dropping the front suspension mount points and your bushings will deform.
Read up on Dwayne's write up on motor mount replacement because it is what you need to do to get to your oil pan. Also, if you are in as far as getting your crossmember off to do your oil pan you better take advantage of having the motor mounts replaced because they are right in front of your face.. Get the motor mounts from Roger (Volvo ones).

Valve cover gaskets can be problematic. Figure 5 hours for that. Have to get all those emission lines off the passenger side and if they have never been off they can be tight. Torch to heat them would be very handy. Need a really tiny ratchet with short 6 (or 5) mm hex head to get the bolt under the brake booster off. If you don't break a bolt, you are golden. You'll need a few new shoulder bolts (order from Roger), replacement cam cap covers because I bet yours are leaking and need to be updated to the pins and don't forget when you do valve cover gaskets you need to order the spark plug sealing gaskets as well.

You'll also need some hondabond 4 for the corners of the cam covers (not blue rtv) loctite 574 for the cam bearing caps that have to come off to replace the pins and a XZN bits to get those cam bearing cover caps off. If the shop doesn't work on german cars they might not have XZN bits. I'll bring mine but they aren't Hazet quality or anything, just generic XZN bits (also known as triple square). You'll also need the sealing washers that go on the new shoulder bolts. Might do you well to have top chain tensioners on hand to replace those if you are taking the valve cover gaskets off. They last a long long time but if you have around 100,000 why not replace them?

I'm going to be there later in the afternoon on Saturday. If anyone wants my lunch, help yourself. This working thing gets in the way of fun.

I have a tube of optimoly, if anyone wants some.

My lunch is under Gayle Shanahan.

Hey guys., hope everyone knows these are old cars and I have one set of tools. I may have a lot full of unfinished Sharks in my lot....lol. And my 1982 928 is sold! After being on Craigslist and Rennlist guy was driving by and stopped in and bought it. Looking forward to meeting everyone and checking some great cars out.
