Default the texas mile

greetings from I 35 on the way home from the texas mile.

I thought the texas group would be there but no other 928s were found...
lots of 911, ctsv and heavily modded gm products. over 200 cars in all!!

I arrived and teched on thursday and friday started with wind in our face and a steep learning curve on shifting an automatic manually to get the best accelleration. I found the car wont upshift when wot even when I think I am telling it to by moving the shifter from 2 to 3 . It wont shift to 3 until redline....duh!!!

any way I found if I put it in drive and floor it to wot it will hold to redline in all gears...way more efficient than I ever could have done....and what a suprise I got.

this roger box is kick *** with wot.

friday and saturday we had wind in our face and high of 85 degrees...not good for top speed at the end of a mile. then on sunday we were all out for a cold snap of 58 degrees and wind to our backs..I made 2 final runs after a steep learning curve friday and saturday.....first was 166.9 and last the pic below....

The last speed was way elevated because I got a kick in the pants on the run from a big wind gust at the end....so I claim only the 166.9 mph!! and running my 6.4 l , ITB with cams and headers.

great group of people and awesome cars.... I think a ford gt 40 ran 267 mph....

more than a few had major engine trouble! mostly gm products.

thanks for reading and I hope I can get a group together for next yr to meet in Beeville texas for another texas mile event.....

Congratulation Andy. Looks like you're getting the car tuned and running well. 171 (or even 166.9) mph is an impressive speed for a 1 mile standing start run.

Good Job Andy! I completely forgot about the Texas Mile this weekend. Seems as though some of the DFW's who need to drive their cars more would have showed up to support you had they known about it. (Chuck)

wow only a hour.....I really should have posted b efore but I just guessed this was a popular regional event. one 944 turbo was there... lots of 911 turbo with ungodly boost...hitting 220. every one running boost with methanol esp the cadillac cts v crowd...I think they were 15 psi with methanol injection and running consistent 170 and mostly 180's...one hit 192 wow those cars showed up in a pack....12 I think...

this was done at an abandoned airstrip and had 1\2 mile of slow down after the mile for the turn around..

The car felt very light but was still pulling and was still running 5k .at 167 mph.. Oil still full after 6 wot passes...no leaks . runnning a little rough and died while in line 2 times...hot restart is a real problem. the tuner thinks its the hot intake and I need to get off my **** and talk to speed toys and get this new intake done...

I would like to see todd out there , wouldnt that be cool. he surely could do 190 dont you think?

Forgot it was this weekend also. Us DFW guys went down there to it when the Spring Fling was held the same weekend. It's a good 6 hour drive down from here and we are going in about 3 weeks. On that note, congrats, that looks like a damn good run for a standing mile.

How much more engine did you have if you had, hmmm, say, two miles

Well done Andy. How was the cars stability in that high wind? I'll bet the sound of the car was even better than when you passed me (in my rental car) on the way to OCIC in Wichita last summer.

rock on Andy!!!! Keep in mind you drove your car two and from the event, in comfort and style.....ran six passes above 160mph in only a mile, in DRIVE no less....you built a sweet 928.....not many others can even go 170mph....no to mention doing it in drive and making it look easy!!!!!!

Thanks all,
I towed it with my dodge truck . way more comfort for 13 hours drive, and winch incase something went wrong.....

now I just made it home an hour ago and stopped by the tuner so he could download the last 30 min .(sitting in line the car was idling and just dead died twice, this was a hot restart issue that plagues the car since I got it back)

Gary, the front felt really light and any faster , would feel safer with some extra down force.

at 167 mph the rpm was about 5100 rpm and was accelerating well but was slower than the 2 to 3rd shift..I think the 3rd to 4th happened about the 3\4 mile mark...

I sure wish I lived closer to nevada for the silver state, etc, if there was a way to ship the car , then fly in and race for the weekend and ship the car back,,,,,that would be way cool for all these event. but most people have more time . that would be very expensive though, big time!! ugh
