Here's a picture of a shielded wire from a 944 harness I inherited. Is this how my wire was connected from the factory? The thick gray wire I assume is the grounding/shielding. Do I have that right? The S4's wires are white and black as far as I can tell.

And one final comment. The routing of the harness connector so it has to curve back on itself seems to be less than optimal. After I rebuild the harness connector I am going to reverse the routing so the harness connect goes straight into the metal mount. Seems like that wold be less stress on the wiring.

I think you'll find that the thick grey is a sleeve that only extends to the main outersleeve. Inside the cable the shielded wire is a series of very fine wires, spread all around the other two, inside the cable. To keep the exposed wires together and from touching any metal (like the block) a sleeeve is added ont ot stripped ends.

That was exactly what I was trying to say.

Here's what my soon to be replaced harness connector looks like. In the picture there appears to be a few strands of copper wire wrapping around the connector under the what is left of the rubber boot. Has anybody seen this before? And what is the wiring order? at the harness - I see the wire but cannot see their position at the connector.
