Default Washer pump PITA !

Replaced the windshield washer pump today and I can't stress how big a pain in the *** it was, What ever sadistic bastard thought to put it in such a silly place with limited access next to exhaust heat and road splash should have his ***** slammed in a car door ! ...........or do I have really large hands ?

I found that going under the fender and pushing the rubber nipples through into the engine bay, it was easy to get to the pump and disconnect its lines. Also when reassembling the pump to car, start the rubber bits through the holes in the inner guard, then pull them through from under the guard. Its frequently a help to advise model year - your avatar may or may not be your car.

haven't looked into mine yet, but need to soon.
curious if this is as bad as replacing my clutch slave/blue hose/master. i came pretty close to crying like a little girl during that one.. the clutch master cylinder was the hard thing i've ever had to replace on a car

Much easier to buy a used 87+ tank where the pump is embedded in the back of the tank.
Very easy to access.

Pretty sure you could replace the words "windshield washer pump " with about a dozen 928 sub-systems and still have that statement be 100% accurate..

I see how this makes things easier in the future...but what is involved in making the transition? Are the hose and electric connections difficult to refit to the new layout? As a secondary concern, do the newer ports for headlight system work with existing S3 plumbing?

So then you have to
1. connect the old pump inlet/outlet tubes inside the engine bay
2. extend the pump connector from inside the engine bay and route it to the wheel area? Do I need to change the connector?

Is that correct?

Are these rubber bits available at the Porsche dealership or also at your normal parts supplier? Do they come with a new pump?

Unlike some manufacturers, Porsche rarely sends any parts they know you are going to need to do the job, with the part you ordered.

If you do business with Roger, he seems to always know what other parts are required to complete the job and will tell you what else you need/might need.

I think this is one of the main reasons why he has been so successful.

I don't understand why others have never been able to figure this out....getting halfway through a job and finding out you need another few incidentals to finish the job really sucks!

This was one of my while-you're-at-it items when I had my engine out a couple years ago. My old pump was fine, but a 928 mechanic friend of mine convinced me that I never want to do that job with the engine in the car. Kudos to you for making it happen.
