I haven't heard back from him either, no VM and no return email. Looks like from some of the pictures of the undercarriage, the 928 is in the background (you can see the rims in one of the shots) so I wonder if it was an 'honest' mistake? Would still like to find out what's going on.

I talked with Jon yesterday and he told me this information. He gave me a name todayof someone who had serviced the car and i called him. He stated he did an oil change and installed a seat belt about four years ago. The car is an automatic. lw

You seem to have a connection, great. Maybe you can get the info we have been asking for. VIN. Why the paint and change base color? TB, date and miles, who did it?
Pic of build sticker and option sticker. Automatic is about the only thing in the ad that ids this car, we already know this from original post.
Please, who serviced the oil change 4 years ago?

OT: Sorry about the mis-interpretation. You are a man of few words. Not my intention to be unwelcoming. In those other threads, you expressed an interest in buying a 928. It was suggested to post here. You haven't yet. If you do come out of the closet you might indicate MY, condition you are willing to accept, color, price range, location. Lots of people lurk and know of cars like this on CL; or just see them in their travels; frankly though CL is not really a good source.
You were looking for PPI in different locations and eventually were given contacts. That usually warrants a "Thank you." Also there is lots of information for new users in the new visitor thread at top of forum. Good luck with search.

This car was first listed back in Jan '12. It has been on CL every week for the last year at pretty much the same price - there has been a small drop. It was first listed at $27500. I contacted the owner (John) who was really not very helpful. He could not provide any pictures of the car. He wanted me to meet him at his airplane hanger where apparently the car is stored. He is a good 2 hr drive from here, so I was not interested without seeing some pics first. It just does not add up - he is still trying to sell the car but cannot seem to come up with any pictures. I don't get it.
Let us know if you find out anything new.

I did speak w/him again 2 days ago. It was originally red. He said the dealer he bought it from in Fla told him that, no idea why it was painted. He also has no idea when the belt was done, so that is ±5 years and counting. I expressed how difficult it is to talk about a car w/o visual reference. And I really needed the VIN. He said he would send phone pics. Nada since. He sounds intelligent, but the pics do not match if you know what I mean.

I get the impression that this guy doesn't need the money, he needs space back in his hanger. And he is in no big hurry to sell the car obviously.
giddyupp: if you decide to go up and see it let me know. Perhaps we can meet up in the Presidio and take your old car up there.

Hi all,
New guy here, interested in buying a 928 for a couple years but can't seem to find the right one. Anyway, I called on this car but haven't heard back so I Googled the seller's phone number. Google shows the seller's name as Jonathan Spencer who has posted various ads for a warehouse, sailboat, video equipment, etc. Frankly, I'm not sure what to make of his sales efforts. The guy owns a plane in Napa and appears in FAA records as a pilot, so I'd be very surprised if his listings were scams unless someone stole his name and phone number. Still, it's very odd that he would go through the trouble of listing a car for sale, get bombarded by calls and emails, and never follow up.

I BELIEVE I know this car a bit. Another local asked me to look at it with him. I drove it out on the freeway and on some city streets. It drove well. I can't remember any functional issues. This was a bit more than a year ago. The owner is a nice guy, and is ambivalent about selling the car. I think he came to Sharks in the Park last year, and I hope he will again this year (not sure) - I don't think he's on the mail list, but I will track down his email and send him a last minute invite.
Like any 928, this car needs a PPI. I saw one or two things that confused me in the radiator support area but NOTHING else - everything looked straight as arrow. Not sure - they might have been normal variants. An actual automotive professional needs to look at it. I hesitate to even mention this because I could not come to any conclusions myself. Suffice to say, get a good PPI. Devon at Hi Tech in San Rafael would be one good option.
My memory may be short on details, but the car seemed pretty nice.
Bimm, and any other prospective 928 owners are welcome at Sharks in the Park this Saturday (link in my sig).

This piques my interest Bill:
Assuming you took the car for a bit and surrounded it with your tools, what would you expect an 'automotive professional' to check or find that you - someone very knowledgeable about 928s - would not if you were to spend an hour or five with it?
