Question Locking Gas Cap No Longer Locks

I have noticed since my last fill up that my gas cap no longer locks anymore. I believe the locking mechanism may be shot. I would like to replace it, but don't want a second key to unlock it since the original is keyed to match the car. Is there a trick on removing the lock and tumbler on the old gas cap and dropping it into the new one?

Or you could just repair the old one with a locking pawl that will never ever break the same way again...

I would not replace mine with anything that still has a nylon pawl in it - it WILL break - tick tock...

Is there anything I don't have to search for in order to find my solution?

Alan, despite those threads being six years old, are the pawls still being made?

yes - check the fresh activity on that thread... I actually have shipped 7 of these this weekend due to this refresh... unfortunately thats the last 7 that I had.

JP is sending me a bunch more (freshly made I believe - but same exact thing), I expect to have them in just a few weeks... Can send you one then.

Personally I would not get a new cap - it will eventually break too - fixing its weak spot one and for all is a better solution I think...

A year and four days later I need to fix my gas cap.
