Im not sure I understand the electrical side of the HVAC head/solenoid........given the temp sensor string comparo calls for cool does the solenoid then receive 12v and allow vac to be applied to the heater valve?

Stock operation: 12v at the HVAC solenoid gets you vacuum - the vacuum turns off the water valve.

New operation: 12v at the electric water valve turns off the water valve.

However the temp rating of this one would be a major major concern....?

Since a vacuum actuator via a solenoid effectively acts as an amplifier - I'd also be concerned at the drive loading here Vs. the stock solenoid - I think it pretty much has to be higher, but I've never measured a vac solenoid.

thx Alan, what I thought.

The electric version of the valve would have to operate under the voltage/current conditions of the solenoid.

Correction:

Below is the correct 3/4 " manual heater control valve with petcock.

Requires a bit more than opening the hood on a 928 though!

The other issue with electric is its harder still to modifiy the default water valve (car off) behaviour to match predominant summer/winter conditions. Ideally in hot climates default to closed - in cold climates default to open. In very changable climates (or maybe anyway) default to keep whatever the last condition was - e.g. if water valve was closed (max cooling) keep it closed, if water valve was open (mixed heating) keep it open. Vacuum actuators actually make this one rather easier.

I hope i did not imply this was a permanent fix. It's not.

However, if you need your car on the road and you have neither the time, money, diagnostic skills, inclination, don't want to burn your face off in Summer heat, and realize bypassing your heater core is not a good idea, this $10 solution, available at most MAPS, may be for you .

It gives you three settings on, off and with a 1/8 turn, warm air. YMMV.

Default failed heater valve

I just installed a new heater valve from 928srus and it started gushing right at the junction between the black/white halves. put in coolant and it all drained out within one heat cycle! I called roger and was told they'd ship me a new one today. 928srus is a great vendor. In the mean time I reinstalled the original valve and just replaced the vac pod that was bad with one that came on the new unit. Very easy to do. I think roger needs to find a new supplier.

OK enough is enough that is two of the Meyle valves falling apart in two days.
I just ordered a batch of Meccano Bundy which hopefully will be German made and not China.
They will be here tomorrow and this is what you will receive Robert and I will aslo send one to Stan.

Sean let me know how your new one is doing.

Mecano Bundy also make a more expensive but more robust looking valve and I have one of those coming tomorrow.

Rog100. I don't think I've ever delt with a better and more upstanding vendor in my life. I wish all retailers would follow your lead. Thanks again. More bussines to come your way!

Wait, you're not going to accuse him of deliberately sending you a broken part in order to perpetrate a false damage claim against the shipping company?

And I have a big batch of popcorn all made up.
