Default Brake bias upgrade to 33 bar

Saw a new listing for a 33 bar brake bias on eBay today. Some of you might be interested in upgrading from the stock 18 bar to the 33 bar, so here is the link. No relationship with the seller, only posting to assist 928 Rennlisters. I have this on both my 928's, so have no personal interest in the item.

Can we get a recap on what bias each year has?

Hacker,

I think the early 928's had 33 bar. Then they went to 18 bar sometime in the mid-80's. Probably for eliminating any possibility of too much braking in the rear - liability issues.

The total range Porsche made are: 18,33, 45, and 55 bar (I think!!).

When they went to antilock, Euro retained the 33. USA drivers got the 18.

Cool, that's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure - the 928 only had two brake bias options.

Isn't there a 911 option that is in the 40% or more range?

I always thought the same thing, with ABS they can safely send more to the front.

When I moved to the 33bar on my S4 it stopped MUCH better. Still stops better than any car in my garage! Eventually I'll end up with 33bar on ALL my 928's. I don't think I'd go higher than the 33 though.

Brake Bias Valve 60 bar 965 355 305 01
Brake Bias Valve 55 bar 964 355 305 10
Brake Bias Valve 45 bar 964 355 305 00
Brake Bias Valve 33 bar 928 355 305 02
Brake Bias Valve 18 bar 951 355 305 01

These are what we sell - I put GTS front calipers on my GTS rear and changed the biase and it stops on a sixpence. Can't remember which one - getting old 8>)

The 33 Bar sells for $114 so the eBay deal is very good

Rog, did you do the 33 bar? I am thinking I might have the 45 bar on my S4 now that I see that is a 911 part...I just remember talking to my mechanic at the time and how the one we were using was a 911 part... hmmm.

I now have the 45 in my S4, but this is not recommended for anyone without advanced driver training.

What it can do to you, and what you can do to yourself with it..needs to be instinctual knowledge, or you'll be bass-ackwards exiting a corner before you know what happened if used incorrectly.

Jeff--

Is the stock ABS fast enough for that much rear braking, at least on dry pavement? I still have the original 18 Bar limiter in there now.
