spray some PB blaster on the gear and shaft.
get a bolt that has a head that will cover the crank bolt opening,
then drill a dimple in the top side of the bolt.
Fit the bolt to the crank. The idea here is the use the bolt to act as the pressing point for the puller so the crank doesnt get damaged
NOTE it doesnt have to screw into the crank, it will just cover the end of the crank.
Get a 2 finger puller and hook it onto the rearside of the thrust washer,
( yes you will need to replace the washer).
use the puller to remove the gear replace the damaged washer

Heat is your friend.
Spray some sort of penetrating oil between the gear and the crank.
Use your propane torch to heat up the gear and then try to remove it.
