NOTE: '89 GT ClubSport OE rims are 8" front and 9" rear. 245/50-16 max rim width is 8.5", so not a "fit" for rear.

Two (2) leads: Primewell PZ900 makes 225/50-16 and 245/45-16. These are Chinese-made tires, but generally good ratings, ESPECIALLY at price (about $350-375 set of 4). Tread looks like ZRi "knock-off" (surprise), and decent mileage (15,000 to 25,000 miles and performance. They are W (168 mph) heat rating. And BFG g-Force Sport COMP-2, BUT 255/50-16 rear. Tire Rack says they are guaranteed to fit, but jury out on width/height rub in wheel-well, increase in diameter. Spec table says they will fit 9" rim (OE on '89 GT). #1 (of 28) Ultra High Perf. Summer tires tested.

One of the best tires on the market PERIOD

And, you can order them though Costco....

James
They were temporarily available in mid/late 2012, and maybe early 2013, but they are NOT available now. I checked with TireRack and I called Firestone.....
I have the D90's and I may be the last to move to a 17......

If it is really dangerous to drive with a 3% diameter difference, half the 928's out there should be taken off the road.
The reason for the recommendation of a max of 3% is due to the ABS. You don't want more than a 3% difference between the front and rear diameters. If you stay with the stock size fronts and 245x50 16's the difference is 3.9%. The ABS will not function correctly. It's only in a panic or emergency situation that you want/use the ABS. Do you want it to not work in that situation?

If the ABS light is not on because of the tire size difference, the system will work just fine in a panic situation.

Perplexifying this is. Use the same tire all around.

For new rims, go 18". There are take-offs from Cayman, Boxster and Panamera that work great. those are 8" and 9" wheels, too.

Just FYI, Tire Rack can get Bridgestone RE11's in 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 sizes. Price is $190 each for the 245 size and $142 for the 225 size. Looks to be a good tire, too:

Call Jonas at ext 4694 and he will set you up.

As I've mentioned in several of these threads, you CANNOT get this size anymore in the RE-11. I'm not sure what planet you are on when you connect to TireRack, but it's not earth. TireRack does NOT have the RE-11 in the 245/45/16.
According to Firestone, this tire is "not available". That's the only description I can get from Firestone. Yes, it *was* available last year, but it is "not available" now.

No disrespect Kshipp, but I spoke to Jonas at ext 4694 and he gave me this information yesterday. He said it would take about a week or so to get them in. You are welcome to contact him to confirm.

Just another point of confusion regarding availability of the RE11s... I bought a complete set (225s and 245s) in the proper aspect ratio from Tire Rack 2 months ago.
Never talked to anyone just ordered them online. Very good tire, I would buy them again but may never get the chance...

Would like your insight on the tire, Chalk. Some people have said it is too aggressive or harsh for a street tire...what do you think?

I was worried about this too. They ride very nice, relatively quiet and smooth as silk. My car is stock and has a recent alignment. You can really throw it into turns and the grip is amazing. Best of both worlds. Can't comment on wear but I dont expect much with a soft compound.
