I would get an eyeball on the gears before starting..or you could be down for a week waiting for gears instead of a quick long one day job.

I just did this job a couple of months ago. Use Dwayne's pictorial/and write up. Change everything, it isn't that much more money. If you do change your timing gears, remove the adjusting bolts, and mark the spiders behind the gear slots with a magic marker, a sharp one. Then you'll be almost dead nuts when you replace them with new gears. Buy Porkens 32Valve timing tool, it's a must!
Take your time and it ain't that hard. I do have a lift, and it makes the job a breeze.
BTW, my radiator was junk, so I had to R & R it. I would remove it anyway, gives ya a lot more room to work, when the fans, and rad are out of the way. Good time to clean out all the crap that gets stuck between the rad, and A/C evap.

Going to pull the gears this weekend to see which can be re-used and which need to be recoated/replaced, so that everything is ready for the weekend of the 23rd. If anyone has a flywheel lock I could borrow for a week, please PM me and I'll drive out to you for pickup.
After reading all the pros & cons, I'm going to order the PorKenSioner as well. Like with new prescription drugs, you don't want to be the first user in case there are side-effects, but it seems like there have been hundreds of installs at this point with very few (if any) problems.

Foz - if you give me enough advanced notice (and a few beers), I'll come down and lend you a hand. What year is your car?
Also, if your cam gears are slightly worn, I can recommend a shop in Belmont to have them recoated. This is much cheaper than getting new ones, but you'll need to plan on a 3-5 day turnaround.

Sorry I didn't reply to your email about this. Normally I'm up for any timing belt party. We've had many of them over the years. But, for the time being I am literally up to my ears with other things I need to do. In fact, my car is overdue for a timing belt, approaching 63K miles since last changed. It'll have to wait.
Dwayne's guide is remarkable, with one caveat. Dwayne is so skilled he managed to not make any mistakes or run into any roadblocks. I, on the other hand, have made just about every mistake that it's possible to make and a few that are considered impossible. So, take a look at my supplement to Dwayne's otherwise astonishing work and have at it.
