Default hall sensor bolts

The hall sensor on the GTS is being replaced but Im struggling with removing the lower bolt.

The engine bracket is removed as is the cam sprocket.

Is there a super special tool out there?

Just drill it out and replace it with an 8mm headed bolt. I hate those flucking things.

With small bolts like that you don't have to hit them head on. Go at an angle with a 1 3/16th or 1 7/32 or so bit, once you get through part of it it tends to give up and yield to your masculinity and is willing to be removed.

Oh, for these, I only hit them from the rear.

Sean...how the heck do you get a drill up in there??? I can hardly get my hand in there .

When I FINALLY got those %$#&^% things out I replaced them with hex head bolts. Mine had allen head...why would they EVER use allen head in that location ? I swear sometimes I do think they TRIED to make it hard. Rant over...carry on.

Plug wires, fuel line, coolant hoses and the bracket should be out of the way. The air pump hose is close but if you take it off the EGR (orwhateveryoucallthatdamnthing) is off then you have just enough room to hit the heads of the bolt. You only have to release the head pressure from part of it before the bolt starts to turn so don't worry about drilling the entire head off the bolt.

Dean.......the S4 and GTS are allan head bolts so suspect all are?

I'll replace with regular bolts assuming I can find them small enough.

Why not remove the cam backing plate, it's much easier.

I remember when I did my intake and cam covers refresh that this one was a PITA... But doable.
No special tool needed but my small hands did help for sure.
Good luck.

Does the car have the airpump and AC fitted?

Its easier to get to those socket-headed bolts from underneath if you have the luxury of no smog pump and AC compressor in the way.

Nice idea Sean replacing them with regular bolts - I'll do that next time I get a chance.

Are these really that big of a problem? Mine came out very easily. Maybe I should change them to hex head...

It is very easy to tackle when you remove the entire cam backing plate which I believe he has done. Great time to repair crumbling connector for hall sensor. Mine was actually pinched between the cam plate and had broken 2 of 3 wires.
