Nice to see the car getting some props! The AMC Pacer comparision is always interesting. While at a car show last summer we had a guy trying to convince us the 928 was modeled after the Pacer! He was dead serious... said if you make it lower, longer, wider, smoother, with pop up lights and 100 mph faster you'd have a 928. Yeah, and if you added scizzor doors & a hot Italian babe you'd have a Lambo... We almost fell over laughing!

Thanks for posting the article. Good perspective from the author.

As usual, they don't get the history of the 4-door and 4-seaters right. The red one shown was made long after 1984; the car that Ferry got for his 75th birthday had two doors, 4 seats, increased wheelbase, and it was dark green metallic with green leather and cloth in the interior. It also had S4 style bumpers and a 32 valve engine three years before they went into production.

Few corrections & notes regarding the article:
The AMC Pacer was never (officially) sold in Europe. Certainly known to many in Europe but never was in the public's conception.
The 924 and 928 were concurrently developed although the 928 was conceived before VW gave the Porsche the development contract for the EA 425 (924).

Nicole, Maybe we shouldnt have laughed but he was "positive" about the Pacer influence on Porsche... Sometimes you just gotta laugh... cause the comment makes no sense at all. Doesnt matter to me really since my car which was obviously light years ahead of anything AMC was making... or Ford, or GM, or Chrysler... or...
