Bob; More of a resto mod guy myself. I think it's important to recognize that something on a car was well designed to begin with, and some things not so much. Change where change is due.

Matt: I'd only do it to a beater with a busted engine. Hi Po parts are plentiful and reliable for hot rod bugs.
This one would do quite well in place of a stock 1582:
