Default New Motor Mount Design: adjustable and rebuildable

Taking a page from some other great designs out there, I have modeled a new motor mount for the 928, and a local shop has agreed to make a small batch for me at a reasonable price. They will fall in between the price of Volvo mounts and the OE Porsche mounts.

It is a rebuild able design, with two molded polyurethane inserts. These inserts are already being used in motor mount applications, and have been well tested. However, other material could be cut via waterjet and inserted, including 60 or 90shore durometer butyl rubber sheets, or any number of other isolators. This also allows some tuning of the height. This is designed to have an approximate stock height.

The locating pin in the bottom is a grub screw, so can be installed or removed depending on your application. Additionally, the mount can be "preloaded" by screwing the top and inserting the soft-tip locking setscrew allowing further tweaking of the mount. Hardware is all stock metric, but the nature of the mount allows use of other size fasteners if desired.

The first set of test mounts getting cut out next week.

I am attaching a 3D PDF which will allow you to view the part in 3D, remove layers and components to see the guts of the mount. I have a different design that has a lot more adjustment, but requires custom poly inserts. I may make that one for track/motorsport applications, but the cost of either tooling the isolators, or cutting from sheet stock (lots of scrap) would make the mount cost more than I would like. With these standard isolators, replacements for a rebuild (if necessary) would be less than $20/mount.

Thanks,
Hans

Hans brought a working model of this to the last 3rd Coast and I was impressed with it. Can't wait to see how it's been refined.

Sure, now that I just popped some Volvo mounts in the '80 a couple weeks ago ;-)

These look awesome...and the '86.5 will need mounts too! Great job - it's just so awesome to see all these amazing parts being developed for our cars.

Are there different durometer levels for the standard insert?

I could see installing a firmer doughnut on the right lower, and left upper.

Brilliant concept Hans ... I wouldn't need to wait on field testing .. I'd be happy to put those in my car now.

I'll plan an oil pan gasket change when this is available.

So will you be selling these yourself Hans, or selling thru a vendor?
