I am a believer that the butt dyno is just a little under rated. I feel like I can judge a car pretty well by riding in it and I think most car guys can judge it fairly accurate. Numbers aside, I think a 69 Mustang with a stock 302 would feel pretty slow compared to any 928.

The early Mustang 302 4 bl however made over 300 ft lbs of torque under 3,000 RPM .....which makes a big difference in how it feels when you step on the gas pedal at relatively low RPM.

US car companies changed from SAE gross to SAE net ratings starting in 1972. So, for example, a 1971 Corvette with an LT-1 engine was rated at 330 HP, while the exact same engine in 1972 was rated at 255 HP. If a Mustang that was rated 225 HP in 1969 were rated using the same criteria as your 928, the rating would probably be much less than 225 HP.

yep, did a lot of dynoing of the 928S 84. it was a little weak at the 175 rwhp range. didnt get to 200rwhp until headers and exhaust. some make 220rwhp with this kind of mod

After this whole disussion we can then start taliking about whether HP or Torque is more important to a cars performance.
First of all the OP's premise was incorrect. Porsche rated HP at the crank, NOT at the rear wheels. Dyno's measure RWHP and a 5spd trans will show about 16% loss and an auto nearly 20% loss.

As to drag and the 928...the 928 SUCKS! The OB's had a Cd of .41, IIRC, the S's came down to about .38 by blocking some of the front tires and managing a bit of airflow around the back of the car and the S4's were the slickest at .34... Again, those might not be right on, but they are damn close. I think a PanAm is like .28. Today's cars are FAR more aerodynamic than our poor sharks... Though for the day the 928 was not to far off the mark. Aero-wise anyway.

So my '81 euro is actually 240 hp at the crank....I've seen many posts here on RL quoting horsepower at the rear wheel using numbers published by Porsche in various sales literature. Actually that's why I asked. There seems to be much confusion. Thanks....

If its in close to original factory Euro trim and new condition yes, otherwise likely less.

928 was a great car for its time but so was the Model T.
With newer technology it makes our cars look like dinosaurs
Look at everything into the new 991 GT3
Titanium rods
All wheel steeering
Finally PDK with a shifter on floor you can use,
and so much more,if you haven't seen it take a look at

They probably were more like Nissan 300zx which had close to 10 degrees
which might of helped grandmas park a car.
You're Honda couldn't do 7:30 at the Ring

New 991 GT3 is NA,no turbo
I watched the whole web special really looks like a nice car and finally a GT3 with PDK
Revs to 9.000 rpm too.
Claim is breaking into the 11's in 1/4 mile
0-60 in 3.3 with top speed around 195mph
Nice numbers for being a NA car.

10 degrees won't do jack $hit for parking. Hacker is right, AWS been atound since the late 80's. Nissan not only had it on the 300ZX but on the higher end 240SX too.

10* will do a lot more than you think it would. 2.5* of rear steer is very noticeable.
