Default Norcal 928 Thunderhill report...two 928's on track!!!

Ricky-Ricky Petty and I were on track today.......

As usual it was an interesting day....I had endless "issues"
which is normal (unfortunately).... my new-ish Michelin scrub slicks didn't turn out like I thought.....after TWO spins I decided its time for a change back to something I am used too....turns out one tire was defective (damn those free slicks) So after that things got a little better....well umm until my wasted plug wire caused a miss that cost me 7+ MPH on the main straight....

So that sucked....but I still managed FTD (fast time of the day) for over 100 cars....(think ZR1, GT3, GTR, nascar thingies, plus everything else) with a car I was NOT happy with A video of me (with my silly loose michelin slicks) passing TWO ZR1 (as in C6 ZR1) back to back is pending...

Ricky Petty had a better day...he managed a PERSONAL best lap time, with a fat *** (me) passenger on a severely corded front tire....so that is impressive.... Congrats to Ricky for excellent driving!!!

Enough talk...on to the pics....

Holy crap garage 17 is starting to look like some thing from an episode of hoarders.

With a truck load of tires at the shop you don't really need to run them that long! Lucky that thing didn't let go.

Are you going to install one of those engines in the latest addition to the fleet?
I have a couple of engines here as well if you need one. and a 5.0 L bottom end in Socal if you need it.

Where's the video? I want to see the spin! I honestly can't remember seeing you spin ever, Funny though all my spins seem to make it to youtube seemingly as soon as they happen. Odd, very odd.

Very Cool Iceman,
You're livin the dream.
What do you estimate it costs you annually to race at this level.

the NAUGHTY ???

Its a variable target.......IF I could stop "upgrading" the car the costs are much less..... I like to get out at least once per month....less in winter, more in summer..... I'd guess $1kish per month is reasonable.....

Track days are around $100-250 per day. Tires are super cheap, since I run scrubs in true 928er fashion (learned from Kibort-Anderson) Brakes last quite a while.....I would guess 15-20 hours on track total (I changed them when I bought the car and they have around 10 hours on them and still look great)

One thing I have learned is building the car is maybe 1/2 the battle.....running the car costs nearly as much!!!!

Brian: I have the center pieces of the BBS wheels for those interested in them. I also have the S 4 brake stuff. Call me soon to do DMV paperwork. Also I have a driving suit for sale in case you soiled yours during that spin.

Brian,

It's super cool you're doing so well with Casper, and early 28 with early motor.

And it sounds like you're also doing things right with the costs.

It makes me think (once again) it was a shame Porsche didn't give the 28 the racing attention it deserved. They're doing the same now to the Cayman which is inherently a better handling Porsche as the 928 was.
They're so afraid to challenge 911 sales in any way.

Ferrari raced the "Daytona" their flagship model at the time and gave it it's racing pedigree in spite of the fact that it was way, way too heavy and handled and braked very bad. Drivers said "it was like racing the Queen Mary".

Good luck,
Matt

Dosn't look like you did anything to upset the car causing it to spin. Looks like it just let go.

I can't believe how much you are loading the suspension in turn 10. I think the 800lb springs might be a little light for the front.

+1 and nice driving
Guys in 640 HP Vettes are more afraid of wrecking their cars for sure.

And..it was a track day. Not a race. So dont get too tied up in the game.
