Today's problem
Well the recent run of misfortune continues. Car was running great today - had a visit from a couple of our fellow 928 brothers from Dubai. We had a very pleasant lunch on the beach front.
They wanted to get back to Dubai early so as I was driving home to my house I noticed th speedo had packed up. Do not much about this sub system other than there is a sender on the rear axle I believe.
Any analytical tips much appreciated.
Regards
Fred

Check your fuses. There was an old thread from DR about this, I think.

You have a digital speedo relay - check /clean that
Have you seen any issues with PSD or ABS off messages? Is it totally dead or intermittent?

It's run off the front ABS sensor.
If ABS is not giving a warning about being turned off, then it's a problem between the cluster and the CE panel....

Thanks for the inputs so far. The car was stood still for two weeks due to the problem with the leaking seals on both front wheels where the air adapter enters the centre rim section.
Over the last couple of days was attempting to track and repair the issue with the light lifting system [now partly fixed!]. As went out to lunch today did not notice if the thing was working or not but spotted it on the way home. The needle was as dead as a Dodo and no sign of life whatsover.
I did remove the two relays next to the big one for the lights in the bottom right corner to help improve access to that relay. The firs tone I removed was XIX which is the frequency converter unit. Just leaves me wondering if there was something wrong with the way I put it back. I did have to look at it carefully but concluded there was only one orientation it could possibly fit back in. Just been out and checked it. The re-installation looked OK- not as though it was not engaged or anything. Had a look at the circuit diagram [sht4/ model 93] but could not tell which fuse protects it.
I presume I did not do anything stupid like get the two relays I removed installed in the wrong slot and get it mixed up with the say relay XXI [interference suppresser]? The one I understand is the FCU is black whereas the supersser has an alloy finish.

Fred,
Just had a similar issue on my GTS - at certain speeds the speedo needle would slip and the digital read out also. It was an intermitant signal loss from the sensor. Cleaning it improved things a little but it would still act up. New ABS sensor no more problems.
My gut says the #25 fuse. When I first got my GTS it was a common problem with thjat fuse. Resulted from a dry joint in the circuit board and ultimatley I had to replace it - the board that is.

The good thing about this list is you can help others, others can help you, you can shine when you know what you are talking about and you can also look a complete and utter tw*t when you do/say something DF stupid.
The only fuse blown my end is the one between my ears and that happened at birth I suspect!
Wait for it- I put the bloody FCU relay back in its socket in the wrong orientation- and that after studying the orientation of the pins very carefully!
I thought it felt a bit more losse than I expected but reckoned old Ferdinand made the sockets such that oyu could not possibly put them in the wrong way no matter what!
Durrgh-
Thanks for the kind support-apologies for wasting your time on this wild goose chase.
And yes- my speeedo now works [surprise surprise]
