Car mag subscriptions are cheap, so I just get a bunch of them - R&T, MT, C&D, and Automobile. Real pages vs IPad - can bring to the pool, beach, garage or wherever and not worry about it. Easy on eyes. Good for HF coupons too.

Wow, he dodged a bullet by not investing in the F355. They've been the service pig of the fleet so far. Trans defects, valve/seat/guide mistakes, elec gremlins with the airbag and suspension, and various other parts of the car didn't live up. The teething pains on the 355 make it a real garage queen.

The hands on mechanical aspect of service has never scared me...its the price of the parts that would steer me away from 355 or Ferrari in general.
Still would love one though!

I prefer paper because if I drop it in the bog I only lose a dollar worth of magazine rather than a couple hundred bucks of electronics.

I hope he joins us wrenching 928 crazies here to keep his ride alive.

.... and Road and Track was my first car magazine. I remember feeling guilty as a 10 year old "stealing" a subscription card off out of one of the ones on the rack and asking my grandmother to get me a subscription.

Me too! There was a 512BB at C&C last weekend, for 57K. It looked fantastic. Buying the car is cheap, it's the maintance issues that have kept me from getting a Ferrari. BTW, it has a flat 12, couldn't be that bad, could it?

Well, no reply, so I think I was blocked by his firewall (secretary). I'll run it by my boss (another Porschephile) and see what he can do.

A 512bb? What year? 57k is a bargain if it's a CIS or carbed model! IF it's late 80's -90's then not necessarily so..

512 BB for under 100k is too cheap. 57K for Testarossa would make sense.

I talked with the owner. He said he would rather sell it cheap, than give it to his wife in the divorce. I do know the difference between the 2 cars.

The last year of the BB is '84. Another car that requires an engine out to change timing belts. I suspect that there is more to a $57k BB than just divorce anger. If there are issues with a BB, it could easily turn into a $50k repair to set things right and maybe more. I don't recall seeing a parts car in that price range.

355 is a wonderful car and makes arguably one of the greatest exhaust notes ever. If the 355 has had the valve guide and header issues addressed (not all of them had those issues, but expensive if they did outside of warranty) they are very hardy powerplants.

The sticky controls (toggles/switches) in the cabin are an annoying detraction, though.

Last of the small bodied Ferrari's and one of the most beautiful too.

The choice between the 928 and the 355 is curious to me, such different cars.

Hope he posts here with stories and more about what led to his decision.

A 512bb has arguably the highest collector potential of the fiat era cars.. I'd be on it at that price like a fly on... well..

The 355 that I know of are maintenance heavy even beyond the valve guides. They rushed the technology too quickly to market IMHO...

This is Vegas, people do things here that they would never do any place else. Because of the gambling they will sell their soul to make that big bet. Dude could be a heavy gambler, who knows?

As far as the car, to me it looks like a big 308. I think the older Ferraris look better.
