I work for Hearst too, and have sent him an email internally asking permission to post the editorial and suggesting he visit here
I hope he responds in the affirmative. Would be nice to have the opportunity to help a VIP 'newbie' with his S4.

All in all, a pretty good issue. Long time R&T subscriber.
Why do I find this very funny ?? Let's see do I spend $50,000 to 100,000 for a F355 or buy a $3,500 928 ? I assume he thinks the repair costs will be more reasonable.

I've been reading R&T since I was a teenager (I'm 77 years old). The first issue I can remember reading had a picture of a pre-war red Mercedes (one of the ones with big swoopy fenders and wire wheels). I consider it the best of the mags. I remember when Car & Driver came out trying to compete with R & T. They didn't succeed althoug I read it too. I agree with the person who said Motor Trend was of lesser quality.

I'm with you guys. I like paper magazines, but a lot of US mags have really gone downhill in the last 10 years. I buy a lot of British mags, but it's kind of hit and miss finding them in one of the few bookstores left open. I download a lot of them to my Kindle from here:

http://www.pocketmags.com/subcategor...tive&zoneid=11

Not as good as a paper copy, but easier than driving to a number of places trying to find a magazine that I'm interested in. Plus, most British magazines cost $10+.

I got my R&T in the mail today. He passed on the Ferrari due to the maintenance costs - ~$12k timing belt service every few years , etc. The only indication I saw of the 928's condition, other than $3.5k price, is a snapshot of the shifter (it's an auto). The shifter looks worn and dirty. He says he's good with a wrench. I hope he comes here and joins the community.

Almost exactly 36 years ago they covered the 928 rollout.

Just wondering, does the engine have to be pulled to do the belts on the 355?

He got the 928 for ~1/2 the price of a set of exhaust manifolds for the Ferrari. $10,000 timing belt changes swayed him I'm sure. He says he can wrench.

I've picked up a British car magazine once in a while at Barnes and Noble. They're ok but it seems they always make snide remarks about "American" cars. I noticed that even the TV shows Fifth Gear and Wheeler Dealers are guilty. The guy on WD made a remark about "dodgy" American electrics on the episode where they flip a Corvette. Really?

Yes, very much like the 348. However, it is in a rear sub cradle so drops out with the rear suspension etc. takes about 4 hours or so to remove.

My favorite was always Autoweek....R&T seemed too "commercial" to me...I wanted facts about cars, not advertisements for bic razors....anyway....be interesting to see how it develops...hope he comes here too.

For magazines the way to go is large format and high quality paper with great photography imo. It has to be something you would want to keep. R&T should expand upon those great diagram pages that have the line drawings and graphs, example here -- http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=793699

How much does youtube share on the ads, if viewed? I don't know the economics of YT but 50 mill viewers @ nothing is still nothing. If they make a profit on the video's then great, then they just need the best hosts, like autocars's Sutcliffe and evo's Metcalfe and cool locations. Maybe a private channel accessed by a code in each months mag would work.

And every year they should do shoot-outs in the different classes.
