I have two of them I just removed from my 87, I added an X-pipe and did a cat delete.. Are you only in need of one? I have no idea what to ask for them, but feel free to make an offer if your interested.

I got a few of them as well if the other deal doesn't go through. Shipping might be pricey though to CA. dan87951 at gmail dot com

You can get $250 any time from the scrap dealers just for the content of the cat

I'd not scrap them as there are really not that many left in the world, relatively speaking. Places like California will have people that are going to need them for a very long time. I know Mark at 928 International puts out a notice every few years about wanting to buy them up. I think we shipped him a dozen back in 2009/10. I'm hanging on to the ones I have for now, some of the locals still need to pass smog. Luckily we are a 24 year state, which means at 25, no more smog tests.

This.

I picked one up as insurance against the govt introducing regular emissions testing locally. Here there's a one-time test for unregistered vehicles, plus you can get pinged by the EPA if they think your car is too loud/smelly/ricer - but I figure its just a matter of time before the government "stimulates the economy" by introducing annual testing. I'm keeping a stock cat in the roof of the garage just in case I ever need one - I'm looking for another for the other car too. The stock 928 cats are very long-lived.

The emissions specialist at the local government IM240 testing facility also told me older style non-working cats can often have their function restored by running them very rich under load for a while to raise their temperature and burn off contaminants.

Yes, please don't scrap S4+ cats. Once Luan gets his, I would pay $250 plus shipping to CA for a good S4+ cat, if the cat isn't rusty, the air injection tubes are good (no broken welds) and the matrix is intact (no rattling when shaken).

Same here, hold on to them.

Just a matter of time before the EPA forces more uniform compliance across the states.

Have had muffler guy repair 3 sets of downpipes and put the cats back into service.

Slight mods and the S4 cats can be run on earlier cars too.

I'm curious what mods to put an S4 cat onto an '86.5 exhaust?

I'm asking as I believe 86.5 has the same dual-exhaust as Euro 84-86 - and if I want to import a Euro 86 16V to Australia I'll need to get it through emissions testing
