Like Anthony said, it can go from a dark blue to purple.
Different camera and camera setting can make a difference too.
Thank you for the pics Fred & Bertrand. Before they sprayed the base coat on Just Beachy, a silver ground coat was laid down (1st pic). IIRC, this helps to make the color flip flop a bit. The next pic looks much more greenish than the pic below it which looks much more blueish-same car, different lighting I guess. T

Tony,

There are a number of factors that can change photographic appearance, not least of which sunlight and time of day. Beyond that there are then the trappings of digital photography wherein you can change just about anything beyond recognition, especially if you have neutral tones rather than strong colours. Even so strong colours can look quite different. Bertrand's 928, striking as it is, does not [to me] look like Cobalt Blue as I recognise it- whether it is an accurate rendition only Bertrand or those who have seen the car can advise on that one. From the photo posted, I would describe that shot as more a "royal blue" type of colour- but that is just a personal perception of what I see.

I deliberately attached the other photos taken indoors, with some shaded elements to demonstrate the range of how it looks. The main photo [outdoors] was taken early afternoon, "winter time" in direct sunlight with direct sun reflections. Another one attached herein shows the car later in the afternoon [longer shadows] but all other settings the same. In indirect sunlight light the car often takes on a deeper or even purpley hue. If you look at the background you will see neutral tones quite nicely balanced, and my friend's 993 cabrio -silver- is a cue as to the accuracy [or otherwise] of the colouring.

Similarly, if you see the front of the car [still direct sunlight] it is quite light but if you look at the rear wing- in the shade of a palm tree you can see reflected on the bonnet- if my memory seves me correctly, it looks much darker.

Another factor in appearance is the sheer high gloss polish reflecting the bright skies.

Regards

Fred

Now then, a few min utes on a basic photo editing programme and see if you can spot the difference and more to the point, recognise the cobalt blue hue on Bertrand's 928 S4?

Fred, Here is another Cobalt pic found online. This appears to be in line with yours. T

That looks more accurate if the sun was right for the purple to start showing through than it did before. At least on my monitor.

Pretty cars I wish I was able to get my hands on that lone US GTS.

Yes, a shame that car was parted out. T

Well, since we've drifted past the original two choices, let me be the first to throw in Minerva Blue. Absent that, I'd say Tahoe.

Are we limited to Porsche selections? Here's a great AM color they call 'Elusive Blue' (on a car btw, that's almost the spiritual successor to the 928) ...

If this is going to be opened up, I recommend GM's Lemans Blue which was found on Corvette C6 models from around 2005 - 2007. I have no idea why they discontinued it. Most who see it up close are impressed.

These are carbon fiber fenders from a Z06 model that we put on my car (avatar). They weigh a little more than 3 lbs.

I think you might be correct. I believe I am mistaking Mexico blue which is IIRC a non metallic version of Riviera. Although Porsche had a tendency to name the same color with more than one name. Just like Guards and India red are both the same paint mix.

Had both a 03 Vette in Lemans Blue & 08 Jetstream Blue. Liked them both, but would give the win to Jetstream Blue. Anthony, the Tahoe Blue-37C & Minerva Blue-304 look very much alike, but do carry different paint codes, and do wonder if they are the same color ? Years for the Minerva Blue were 1978-1982 & love that color. The OZ site lists Tahoe Blue only in 1990. The Brian Long "Porsche 928" book lists the Tahoe Blue only in 1992. Tahoe Blue appears again on a 1993 GTS in The 928 Registry. T
