Default I guess i need a new Shifter Ball Cup...

I had a vibration in my shifter lately, this is what I found when I checked it out:

I think I am going for the one from 928motorsports, does anyone have some good tips on changing it?

Thanks,

Arjan

Its just your bushings that are bad. Just replace the bushings. Roger has some Delrin ones that are inexpensive and do not transmit vibration along the shifter.

Nice video BTW!

I've already replaced it once and am ready to do it again. Heat seems to affect the bushings and I am also considering the motorsport one. It's time for a more precise shifting experience. Bring on the vibration. G

Sharkbody,
Did you use the Delrin bushings the first time? Or go back with stock?

Just to make this clear, are you talking about putting a new plastic insert in the ball cup versus replacing the whole thing, or is it some other bushings to which you refer?

I assumed it was the ball cup bushing. Perhaps not. What are the stock ones made of? Teflon? I could have one custom formed from Torlon or something similar. Sustained temps in the 500 range would be no problem. Don't know the range for Delrin yet. Bottom line for me is I don't want to keep doing this. G

Yes your front bushing has fallen apart/out.

Rogers delrin bushings are for the rear.
Carl's replacement is an absolute nightmare to install.

Instead contact roger and ask him about the short shifter that eliminates this bushing entirely.

Had no idea that was a possibility. Thought the ball cup was a necessary leverage point. G

It is for the stock, and most aftermarket short shifters.

But the one I designed (available through RL sponsor 928srus), eliminates the front shift rod as there are two bushings on the front rod, both of which fail. One though requires the torque tube to be removed to replace. Both of them add a lot of slop into the shift mechanism.

The replacement that I designed is much more precise and feels nearly very gated. When you install it, it is so drastically different it will take a couple days to get used to.

If you do a search, you can find a few people who have reviewed it. I think Herman K had posted up some pictures too.

Colin,
Does it make an improvement on the later cars, like my 91 GT?

Bilal,

Its been installed on cars from 78-95 with no issues. So yes, it definitely makes a difference.

There really is no vibration issue with our unit. You would only feel it if you rested your hand ont he shifter while driving and concentrated on it - then you may feel it. It is very slight.

BUT - you get rid of all the nylon - it gets soft under the heat of the exhaust below it and fails.

If you put this one in, it will be the last one you ever install!
