Default Coolant question

Hopefully putting the engine back in this weekend. So I'm looking for coolant recommendations. Or does it not really matter. Will NAPA 50/50 be fine?

You want a phosphate free coolant such as G05. I think I am using Peak; the phosphate free variation of course. Conventional coolant *can* be corrosive to aluminum engine blocks and heads.

Zerex G-05, 1 gallon, plus one bottle of water wetter, and fill with distilled water. I live in the desert, never have to worry about freezing temps. I suppose if it freezes where you live you might need to add more G-05. Zerex is for aluminum engines. Don't use the green stuff, Zerex is clear. Make sure you flush out all the old coolant first.

^^^^ what Joe said....
However you need to double the quantity the 928 coolant system holds just about 4 gallons of coolant..

My suggestion if the coolant is being replaced
to replace the coolant bottle cap
the heater control valve and the short hose
the thermostat
the rear thermostat seal and O ring

Get 2 gallons of the Go5 Zerex coolant full strength found at NAPA,
and 2 gallons of the distilled water at the supermarket

Make sure to drain the block,
it holds just about 2.3 gallons of coolant ,
the drains are on the block between the 3/4 and 7/8 cylinders

Thanks Guys. Thought as much. Just needed to be sure. I was running Zerex in the wife's old caravan. So i already have some on the shelf. Getting kind of anxious to get this back together.

I understand how to drain, but is there a specific procedure to refill.....Ie just use the radiator end of the top hoseand fill away. then start , let warm up and fill the rest through the reservoir???? I was always unclear how the best way to burp also...

Stan has posted the fill procedure before. The system is pretty much self venting back to the reservoir. Basic steps are to fill the reservoir completely full with the engine off until it won't take any more. Set climate control to full heat and start the engine. Top up the reservoir to the cold fill line until the thermostat opens. Install the reservoir cap and take the car for a drive to ensure the engine get fully warmed. Park the car and allow to cool completely, then top up the reservoir to the cold fill level and you're done.

Thanks Stan. Knowing how "well" the RL search function often works, sometimes it's just easier to type it out versus searching up and posting a link to a previous post.
