N rated tyres
According to P101TV we all need N-rated tyres. I can' check right now if I have N rated tyres but knowing the PO, I don't. Do you?

[old crusty 928 owner] Al Holbert went for a cruise at 172 mph on non-N-rated tires and lived to tell about it, why do we need N-rated tires now? [/old n' busted]
No N-rated tires here. Sumitomo HTR-ZIII's. Love them in the dry.

No one seemed to care that I ran non "N" tires in Unlimited Tech speed ORR classes for the last 8 years. They only cared that the tires were (Y) rated and less then 2 years old.

Yes I do. Want to avoid any possible difficulties with TUV and the insurance company should it ever come to that. Price-wise there's no difference.

N rated tire are supposed to be for the rear engine Porsches. Something to do with slighly stiffer side walls or something like that but even those guys hardly use them. They are more expensive than the same brand/model non N tire.

From my experience when buying new shoes for my 944, the N-spec tyre is VERY different to the "same, but not N-spec" tyre.
As an example the Bridgestone S-02 N-spec 225/50R16 had a measured tread width of 222mm, while the normal 225/50R16 had a measured tread width of 187mm.
According to Bridgestone themselves, they use tread-width as a variable in tyre construction - it doesn't have to match the section width quoted in the tyre dimensions (and usually doesn't), and they change it as necessary to make the tyre meet the design requirements.

"Not much choice in N-rated tyres available in the stock S4 sizes (245/45/16 and 225/50/16). Conti Sport Contact might be the only ones now?"
Hilton not sure what's available now in Australia regarding S4 16 or 17 inch sizes if you have the cup rims but around a year ago I had no luck finding N spec tyres to fit. I went with Continental SC 3's and my understanding is they aren't N spec but they were Merc approved tyres for what it's worth
Very happy with the tyres

I have a set of 17" Cup II's (ET65 ex-GTS) on my other 928 at present, but will be changing to 18" on there once these Dunlop tyres are done.
Interesting comment above about tread width for N-spec.

I've got Hankook VR-12's on my shark, and they're rated for up to 186mph. Faster than I'll ever go in it. Great ride and handling! A lot of the Ferrari guys are running them also.
