I have the second version. I can measure and send you some photos and drawings. So that I understand correctly is the pivot plate you are referring to the actual plate that the block gets bolted to?

Livio,
I would want to make sure its the exact same model as the one pictures, if I am having them made, I want it to be for a model that is currently available. If you have that exact same stand, then yes, please send dimensions for the plate itself - not the arms. The new adapter would bolt directly to the plate - alternatively, I could have a complete yoke fabricated to insert instead of the stand-supplied pivot plate, but that would add significant cost over the simple plate method.
Thanks
Hans

I ordered the crank operated Sunex stand from Jegs today. Will get the base flange in CAD when it gets here, and then these adapters are going out for fabrication.
Anyone interested? Need to know if I should have them bid by a shop, or just send them to my one-off fab guy.
Thanks
Hans

Hans,
I measured the plate for the engine stand that I have which is very similar to the unit that was shown earlier. Seeing that Mine is from a different supplier, I do not want to take a chance that it is slightly different from the unit that is posted. What about making the spider holder as standard and then having it available for anybody to add thier own adapter.
My reciever accepts a 60mm OD round tube which is 178mm long and has a 23.5mm hole drilled through on one end and three 15mm evenly spaced holes drilled on the other end. I have a sketch of it and will try to attach a link to this.

I'm getting ready to pull my MY84S in about a month so the body can go to the paint shop. I'm a little confused as to the actual adapter ring that facilitates a more solid attachment of the engine to the stand. According to some of the info the P201 apparently fits the 928 block but when I called Pelican Parts to verify the info they said it would only fit air cooled engines. Does P201 fit the 928 block? I have also seen an adapter "ring" manufactured by SIR Tools that looks like it might be the "ring" part of the P201. What's the real scoop about attaching a 928 engine block to one of the more heavy duty "H" stlye engine stands? I'm certainly not comfortable with just the 4 bolt attachment method in an aluminum block.

I dont believe the P201 is the correct number for the 928 Yoke. I know mine has a different number stamped in it. I also dont think the P201 has the integrated flywheel lock, which you definitely need to set timing on the stand with the lower bell-housing removed.
I am not a factory tool guy, best deffer to Rob to confirm though.
Thanks

The 928 (and 944) engine yoke is actually the 9127, see page 13-1 of the WSM. Not sure how it differs dimensionally with the P201. Neither Baum nor ZDMAK list it either. I'll see whether Greg has both, next time I'm up there.

The apparatus on my geared engine stand is not removable, so the factory tool (or replicas thereof) won't work unless they'll bolt to the plate (sans the adjustable 'ears'.)

Dave,
That is the plan. Remove the ears from the Sunex plate, install new yoke. Enjoy (near) effortless rotation of 928 engine.
Hope to have mine in the next day or so and will update the drawing to show the finished product.

Three Wheelin'
If you already have a stand without the gear box something like this made to slip in the tube going thru the head works for turning the engine. In this case it's used to turn the car, but the idea is the same.
It's just an automatic trans flywheel & teeth off a starter drive. Car is being built by Kent Fuller who was famous for his drag chassis in the 60's.
