Would enjoy working on them Harvey and Lou. As for tools....I got em. I also have a copy of the original shop manuals that have been personally greased by me. I am in Matthews...so close to Monroe. PM me with your contact information. What I have already found out today....owning an 85/86 makes it tough to find injection parts...like an air box top or air tubes....both NOT AVAILABLE!

I found at least one 86 air tube while looking around at 928Intl, used, but not bad.

I called 928INTL today and they did not have one. Looking for drivers side. I may can repair mine...was using duct tape but you know what that looked like. I am also going to have to fabricate a piece for my air box top which is broken....another part unavailable.

FWIW they only make one intake tube,

its made to fit both sides of the engine.
to fit to the opposite side,
simply turn the rubber collar 180 degrees you will find a hole for the air inlet horn.

Yea...but after 27 years of being bent one way under extreme heat conditions...they don't like being bent the other way without cracking. I was given the option of purchasing a GTS version for $200 bucks each. I will settle for duct tape if I have to.

They may not know they have it. I found a box of intakes tubes on floor under the shelves looking for some other part during the last sale. If I get a chance I will stop by next week and show the box to Tom or Mark.

You don't bend it, turn it over 180 degrees, rotate the rubber ring until the hole points down again.

Dang....I had to run to the garage to see. I have never even noticed the rubber ring....since its almost melted to the tube. If you see one, let me know and I will call Tom back.

The fondest memories I have of my late dad is laying under our various cars "bending wrenches" and going to the range on Sundays to throw lead down range. (He was N.J. State Police firearms instructor) The time we spent together is something I will cherish forever.--SO I say-Keep the car and work on it together. The money you spend is of NO CONSEQUENCE if you look at it from that angel!

Keep it... work on it... get your son involved as much as possible.... what the hell Since its an 86 I wouldnt bother rebuilding the tensioner (they are crap). Order a Porkensioner when you order your timing belt & waterpump (if it hasnt been replaced). The Porkensioner is MUCH-O better than the stock tensioner.

I would suggest to make:
- an honest assessment how much time and money you are able/willing to invest/spent.

Make a list with:
- all what needs fixing/restoring/modifying;
- an estimate how long each item would take and what it would cost; and then
- add up all the time and money required.

Is what you are able/willing to invest/spent in the same ballpark with what it would take?
