So my wife has been driving my 928 for a llittle over a week while i was working on her pos xj8.
I get in the car today and take it for a drive down to cedar island (awesome drive is anyone is down this way).
I noticed the sound in town at first. When i would accelerate hard sometimes it would begin making a " sheet metal flapping" sound. the "flapping" was not dependent on motor rpm, and would "flap" on irregular rhythms.
It would not do it every time, but sometimes. The noise would last until i slowed down.
I swore it sounded like i had one of those thin strips of sheet metal that the hvac guys use to hang ducts caught under my car. It sounded like it was flapping and hitting the asphalt.
I continued the drive and made a high speed run. as i slowed i could hear it again exactly the same sheet metal flapping sound. Again i got out and looked under the car and nothing....
Check your spoiler mounts and all the heat shields. Could be any of them. They get greasy and loose sometimes... just like college, but it takes jack stands instead of vodka to get under a 928.
from the info I would guess that its one of the heat shields next to the exhaust manifold/ header pipe connection they are held on with 2 bolts ,
if one comes off then it will flap in the wind

got back on the road and it was gone
any ideas where to start looking?
About a 1/4 mile back from where you pulled over and looked under the car.
Also check the black plastic plate that between the rear edge of the front PU (fender) and the lower edge of the radiator flap framework. Shove your hand in the 3rd slot down in the front - the black plastic link plate should be firmly attached.
