RE: Uniqueness, being sunroofless was a lot less common in the US vs. the rest of the world.
Of the 6656 US cars from '87 to '95, only 52 (0.78%) are sunroofless- 30 1987's, 15 1988's, 5 1989's, 1 1990, and 1 1994.
1987: 30 out of 2421 (1.2%)
1988: 15 out of 1794 (0.8%)
1989: 5 out of 1189 (0.4%)
1990: 1 out of 459 (0.2%)
1991: 0 out of 387
1993: 0 out of 209
1994: 1 out of 120 (0.8%)
1995: 0 out of 77
In the ROW, out of 14055 S4+ cars, 3569 did not have a sunroof (25.4%) . 749 '87's, 749 '88's, 627 '89s, 516 '90's, 376 '91's, 260 '92's, 139 '93's, 88 '94's, and 65 '95's.

No sunroof is vastly over rated, IMHO. Add me to the list of buyers that would never buy a 928 without one. I understand the race helmet and the really tall guys but that is such a small minority of 928 drivers. I think the only thing wrong with the 928 SR is that it just needed to be a little bigger to enjoy those summer starlit nights.

Ironically, for track use I don't think no-sunroof really matters - just swap out the drivers seat for a racing seat which sits much lower. Removing the driver's seat and bolting in another is maybe a 30 minute job.
For everyday driving (my white sunroof S4 was my DD for 18 months), no sunroof is a significant improvement. I'm 6'2 and sold my manual S4 with sunroof, as even with an extended hub steering wheel, it just wasn't comfortable.
I had to have the seat back reclined a fair way to not bump my head during normal driving, hence the extended hub wheel was needed to bring the wheel close enough to not be a huge stretch.. and if I forgot and leaned forward, or hit a speed bump, I hit the ceiling.
The difference in headroom is slightly more than 2 inches - enough that I don't have any issue in my non-sunroof 928's sitting in a proper driving position with the wheel close enough that my arms don't fatigue, and I can have a regular steering wheel where the control stalks are actually within finger range!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If for some reason I'm forced to buy a 928 with a sunroof, I'll be hunting down the correct roof panel, support bar and headliner and getting it fixed.

What is so special about no sunroof
if you are 6 feet or more in height (183cm) life can be miserable in a 928. Especially if you have a long torso like me. Though only 6 feet tall my bald head regularly rubs against the head liner in the 90 Zyclamrot S4 with sunroof. In the 91 Turquoise car with the sunroof delete it is blissful.
Hilton's description is accurate to my experience. I don't care for the fully stretched out and laid back driving position. The sunroof is more like a vent anyways. Too small to be of much use. I'd rather have the windows down if al fresco driving is the desire.
Rob, there are a few more cars without sunroofs... Tony77's and the Turq, plus some of the track cars.
