What is your point? Alex Roy invested in the movie and then he made the succesfull record attempt. The film maker never released the film for years and Roy sued her. She has now released the film, seemingly without Roy. This has absolutely ZERO to do with the fact that Alex Roy made the trip in 31:04.

Thanks Ed. I assume you are talking about the “>>> HERE <<<” in this post https://rennlist.com/forums/10125086-post2.html but like I said, I wasn’t comfortable with just a “paypal” link and no “official site” with “shopping cart”.

There was a preview of the movie here in Charlotte a few months ago hosted by the local Ferrari Club (CAFE - Charlotte Area Ferrari Enthusiasts). While it needed a bit of additional editing and some better graphics, it was a compelling movie very much worth watching.

It is disappointing that there is legal action taking place as this movie deserves to see the light of day. Both parties should work it out so all enthusiasts can enjoy it.

I made it from the bottom of El Paso to just above Colorado Springs in just a tad over 60 hours one time. The desert is good for something.

I've found that Paypal is pretty good with these kinds of transactions, as far as buyer protection. And now, you have at least one report of a trouble-free purchase.

I was interested in the film primarily for the period footage and interviews with participants in the US Express races. Brock Yates' book "Cannonball" is a must-read if you are curious about the original races in the 1970's. While there is some great period video footage from the events, and contemporary interviews of the participants, the film is centered around Roy's attempts at breaking the record. It's done in a bit of a reality TV style, which actually works really well. Even my girlfriend enjoyed it, and she has no interest in this sort of thing.

And yes, there is some 928 content (how could there not be?)

Back in the day that sort of thing was possible because LEO's did not have the tech or the numbers they have now, not to mention fewer people. This is the only interesting scene in the whole original Theatrical movie made long ago, the daytona and cobra hauling thru NYC

Had a little taste of this kind of thing once ---- https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...realworld1.jpg --- at a time and day when the highway was virtually empty. Driving fast with others in cars built for it is enjoyable on the right roads with no traffic, what some of these gumballers do is another thing, weaving about in traffic is just too dangerous and stoopid.

Calm down, jeez. I more or less posted that to show Alex does not approve of the movie's release. He is suing her because she released the movie. I forget exactly why (does not approve of the resulting product?). I do know he invested a large chunk of money to the development of the movie.

I'm calm. I guess we're on the same page.

From what I understand, Cory would never step away from the movie and either call it finished or let someone finish the editing. It was in constant edit for years. Some say Cory was too close to the project. Who knows. I'm just glad that something has been released.

Anyone who thinks about driving 2800 miles in one go without previous experience really need to think twice before starting up. Go to bathroom and stay there for 32h nonstop playing video games and eating bisquits. If you still think after it you are good for handling car at 100+ mph then maybe try real thing.

Longest single sitting I have done in 928 was from Nurburgring to Stockholm in 12h 17 minutes. Thats 928 miles on average 79 mph including fuel stops but without half hour spend in ferry between Germany and Denmark. Thats just quick warmup for NY to LA trip. Its last 500-1000 miles which is hardest.

Longest single trip in any car was when friend bought BMW 535d sedan from Stuttgart. We started in Helsinki Finland at 6AM, flew to Stuttgart, took taxi to dealer in Sindelfingen, checked car out, got transfer plates for it and were ready to start by early afternoon. We drove north through Germany, took ferry to Denmark, went over the bridge to Sweden, drove all the way to Lapland and down through Finland to Helsinki. We were home on evening of second day. Thats over 2000 miles in 32h in car. Having to do 800 miles more is really asking a lot.

When moving average speed needs to be close to 100 mph, all the time for 32h. Which is very difficult to achieve. Even in Germany in middle of night through entire country its extremely difficult. Infact its easier through Sweden as there is far less traffic. Most people will give up long before 2000 miles, many even before 1000, even without geting cops involved at all. I bet there isn't many people in Rennlist who could actually do NY to LA under 34h. People who did it in seventies and eighties were highly selected group. Most people back then couldn't have done it regardless on what car they were given. Though I sure would like to try it one day. Sadly AFAIK no one is doing anything like it nowdays, not in Europe either. Gumball 3000 and similar drive 500-800 miles, go to nice hotel and drink all night events really isn't same thing at all.

When I had my trucking company. I would leave Armour Beef, Kansas City, Ks. and be in the door at Las Vegas Cold Storage 17 1/2 hrs later, 1354.4 miles. And thats in a 379 Peterbuilt, 600 hp cat, 18 speed, pulling a 53' reefer 79,980 gross, running 2 log books. Average speed 77 mph.

I could do much better in a car, almost any car, as would any OTR truck driver in the U.S.

Try doing 100mph average for few hours. Its very difficult to go over 100 for long time when everyone else is doing 70-80. If it were easy NY to LA record would be well below 31h and above 90mph.

Have you ever been to America, or driven a car here? Once you leave the cities, there are 100's of miles of nothing but vacant land with the interstate running through it. California crushes cars for racing. The hard part is not getting caught. Running at 100 is easy in a modern car today.
