Starter going or Relay going
Hey gang
Problem #2: went to car to go to lunch and it would not crank. It would try and turn over, but just would not turn that last vroom. Borrowed a coworkers car, went to lunch, hour later I try and it cranks. Any thoughts? Don't have tools at work to change relay. Is there a way to test the starter?

like the guy who called his mechanic said I have a problem with my car....Mechanic askd what is it ? Guy says I went out got in my car this morning turned the key and ten minutes later when I got out I was still in my driveway !!

Did it fire at all when it would not start ? or just crank on the starter motor.. If so then possibly a relay like fuel pump or ign or LH brain relay. Also what year 928 do you have

same relay is used for the horn so first blow horn then use it as a test to replace Ign, fuel pump, LH when it fails to start which it will .... the Autozone relay might not be a very high quality or designed for the amps of the fuel pump...You might just want to get three new GOOD #53 relays and change all three !

relay
Many cars use vw/Audi relay ..like my 996 .. Not sure about 928 but you could try source from vw dealer .. Probably cheaper than Porsche and better quality than generic .. Although apparently still not that great...
If you have easy access to fuel pump you could check if you are getting voltage to the pump with multimeter when cranking ...
Intermittent operation could be relay stuck so switch with horn relay as suggested ...

For future reference, in a jam, I managed to source a '53' relay from VW dealer. Not as cheap though, but worth it if the alternative is to have your car down for the weekend.
