heated seats

Wow...not many responses or input....
I am surprised that no one has any input on this issue....
The ac seats would be sweet.....
I am concerned that the deep pleats would be an issue.

I think it will be fine, now for AC the pleats would be difficult...
Paul Champagne is supposed to be working on it (in the background).
I may have to commit to getting my seats redone to make it happen... I have the airflow type heated & cooled seats in my Explorer - love them - thats what I'd like in the GTS (seebeck/peltier thermoelectric elements).

X2.
we have them in our 2013 Explorer as well as the heated steering wheel. Wife loves it!
It would be a great use for the rear AC unit!! Imagine that dedicated output to your seats! In the Fords i think it is just a blower though..the air never sees an A/C component...at least it is in our '03 Expedition, cant speak for the '13 Explorer as i havent had the seats out.

Tony - on the new Explorers the stock version is a peltier heat exchanger - can run either way heating vs the cabin ambient air temp or cooling vs the cabin ambient temp - its pretty simple and works independantly from the vehicles AC. Basically a peltier element with a heatsink on either side - both have fans: one just blows cabin air across the heatsink, while the other circulates air within the seat frame/ducts. Works well.

I would KILL for cooled seats in my car in Vegas. Its probably the most uncomfortable part about driving around here in the summer.

Hi Steve:
I added seat heaters (2 - temp) when I re- did the seats. I mounted the controls on the transmission tunnel as my switch panel for the seat control did not have space. I have not been too impressed with the performance as the element is mounted below the bolsters and takes + 20 min to warm up. I'm off to a Porsche Club event - Bob's Breakfast Club (its about 4C) and will hope to have a warm place to sit.
All the best,
Joe

thanks..
what brand did you use.
I ask because My wife LOVES heated seats... it is the one thing she demands in a car...
I bought her an XJ8 (the car she has always wanted) for her 40th, so i could later buy my 928.....
Her heated seats will only warm to the cabin temp setting... so if the ac is on she cannot turn on the seats.
She loves to run the seats in the summer with the as as she has back problems (the big ***** have taken their toll)....
If i can get heated seats in the 928, she will drive it more, and i can potentially get a second one. she loves driving it, but does not like the lack of seat heat ..she complains all summer that the jag seats won't heat..
I also like the nice warm seats on the lower back, as i am not getti younger.
I am thinking that if i can get a side seat trim from a heated seat model, it has the switch, and i can use it to actuate the seats, and get the factory look.
what do you guys think... doable?

Yes the heat elements need to be on top of the foam - just under the leather.
Adding seat heat is actually very doable, many kits - the modern elements are also more reliable and more even heating - some are even more finely adjustable for better comfort...
Not sure how well the modern heated/cooled seats system would work with the 928 seat architecture...
BTW whats "good" entirely depends where you live... I have no use for a heated steering wheel (have one on my Explorer - never been used) - Now - a cooled steering wheel would be really appreciated and would be left on for about half the year (Tony too I suspect...)

The brand is "Standard Control" Basically the heater is an 11" x 20" thin blanket with heating element embedded. There is also a temp sensor. The pad can be cut to length (shortened). Since the 928 seat has pockets with foam panels it is very hard to mount this style on top of the foam and that is why mine takes so long to heat up. Once warm however they are quite comfortable
All the best,
Joe
