Default 5 speed transmission thread

I was very excited to pick up an extra transmission today. It was cheap enough that I can play around with it for a while and learn a few things before I pull the one from my 1979 to inspect and/or replace fifth gear and synchros.
I hope that it will peak some interest and we might be able to learn a few things from each other and build a data base.

Any pictures that you have, comments, advise, suggestions would all be appreciated.

Where is it I saw that trans offered, CL or ebay, thinking free or $200, but not close to me, and me not liking that it sat outside and rusted look.

You might want to look up the G28/03 "I think" rebuild thread from a couple years ago. Lots of pictures of complete transmissions.

Thanks for the search title. I tried a few different ones and didn't have much success.
This was on Ebay, $20 starting bid...and no one else bid. I have no expectation of using this on any car, but I do want to take it apart (further) and have something to play with as I read the WSM. This will be another one of those jobs that I do a hundred times in my head before I loosen the first bolt on my car.
I will post more pictures over the weekend.

Mr. Kotter,

Mike would like to participate in this thread but in the past when he tried taking apart a transmission parts wound up everywhere and he was left with a pile of gears and springs and levers that looked like a 100 pound watch blew up in the garage. Please excuse him from this thread.

It is a good piece of info. If you're locked in a gear, quite possibly you've bypassed one of the spring detent pins.
