Default can 1980 Porsche internals stand up to a small turbo or sc?

since I am bored, I started thinking about what would make the US 1980 more fun to drive. 200 hp just isnt enough. It has no cats or restrictions so maybe 230? Anyway, will the stock internals (assuming they are good) stand up to a blower or turbo set up?

Personally, I have never put boost on any motor that wasnt forged. I did notice a few posts on here that seem to state that Porsche stock motors are stronger than I think they are.

so, whats the story?

good to know Ducman. Is it difficult to find a used SC? I am wondering if I will need to do an ECM (computer) retune if I boost. Obviously I will need bigger injectors. I guess I need to look it up.

I use the SCT pro racer tuning package for my mustang. I dont do it myself though, I hire a pro obviously.

depending on how much power you want, you can keep most of the stock stuff. but its still a few grand at the cheapest

I am curious as to whether the kit is about same as for a mustang. Probably not. I jsut read the full install write up from 928 motorsports. There kit seems to install awfully easy.

So are you saying then that I dont need bigger injectors? When I went turbo on my mustang I had to go from 19 lb to 42 lb injectors, change my fuel pump, and get the car tuned on a dyno.

I just talked to them. Stage 1 uses stock everything @ 6psi. they claim 80 hp at crank. that is like 64 hp at the wheels. about 78 dollars per hp. Somewhat reasonable.

I know right. I havent taken the 80 for any sort of decent drive yet. I am pretty sure it will be soft and disappointing. If Euro does in fact get running this weekend, and I can by the grace of the gods get it registered, it would be a much better candidate for a blower.

Ledee416-

Do you ever do any search/research before asking questions that have been discussed many times on this forum.? I'm pretty sure you would find members much more co-operative in contributing valuable information if you would just demonstrate a willingness to hit the search button before asking such basic questions as the ones you seem prone to asking.

Then you are missing out on tons of valuable information in the archives and information from some very experienced members who truly know the most about what you seem to be interested in at that moment. However, you won't get input from them because they don't like to waste their time on people who ask questions that start with "since I am bored...."

Perhaps you are one of THOSE people who never have an unexpressed thought.
