Hi Guys!

Thank you Alan for your this tap commando operation!

Of course we are encountering the same problem on this side of the pond with the towing eye caps welded to the frame

The "Club Porsche 928 de France" annual gathering is planned may 9-12, 2013.
At least 45 sharks are expected in the Quercy area for this French Frenzy...

This would be a great oportunity to get that tap on that spot.

Please let me know how we could handle shipment to France.

Many thanks!

Cheers,
Michel

Hi Alan –

In Germany, “Sharks in Hunsrück” is May 17-19. Are you going Aryan? We could set up shop in the parking lot. Either way, I would like to use the tap when it comes around—via USPS from you Alan or DHL if already in Europe.

I ordered another rubber pacifier from Roger—going to try the double-penetration technique that Rob Edwards suggested to make sure water and crud stay out from the front and rear. And as others have said, at $3, it has to be the cheapest Porsche part ever made.

If Pevi comes around in Helsinki area like I think he does every now and then it can be handed over directly. We have half dozen local cars which might need it, two or three can definitely use it. Few I know further out don't have stuck plugs so at the moment I can't think of need to send it elsewhere in Finland.

One thing to consider is import cost from US to EU. Depending on what is put as a value on package there can be some import tax and VAT which need to be payed. Once it has entered EU there isn't additional costs other than shipping itself from place to place.

Well I'm expecting it back soon (next few days). An option is for me to bring it with me when I travel to the UK in June and ship it direct - but thats a long wait. I will evaluate the duty cost - alternatively we may have have a path via the US military I think - that may be an option too.

Michel thanks for your support on Amicale - are you willing to be the "All France" coordinator. I'll get it to you and you handle in country shipments/payments till you are done - OK?

I also tried to get the message out on the UK email list but the administrators seem quite determined to make me become a member first (?!#^%&!). Is there anyone here that's on the UK message list who can get the word out? Reference these threads - so folks can come & check it out..
Like to know if there is UK interest, and find a local coordinator who can handle in country distribution & payments.

Erkka If I can get the out to you this week to arrive hopefully by end next week - do you think you can coordinate a get together to use it by ~end April - then maybe we can ship it to Michel for the may 9-12, 2013 "Club Porsche 928 de France" annual gathering, then could likely still get it to Aryan in time for the "Sharks in Hunsrück” is May 17-19.

If we can do this then we can pick-up the rest of the Germany/France shipment requests after that - and these events may create more interest anyway... Its a bit tight - but seems more or less feasible?

Not sure I will join Hundsruck, have to check. I can host the tap in Germany though, but my last round of interest gauging resulted in almost none

Alan, please note when importing to Finland the item is customs free if value including postage is less than 22 Euro = 28 USD.

When you mark into customs declaration form "for loan" (or gift) I am pretty sure it will pass customs.

I think we can get things done in Helsinki area in day or two. Package will possibly spend longer in customs. If value is marked low enough it can sometimes sail through directly.

Erkka - I'm planning for it to miraculously and inexpensively arrive in Finland from Germany - no customs issues required...

Expect to send it off in next few days. Erkka please send me your address by PM.

Pevi - I'm expecting it will arrive by ~end next week - would that work for you?

Default JP's Tow Eye Thread Tap Tool - European Tour Details

Euro Tour Kick Off!! After this the Tap will go on permanent load to the OCIC tool loan program.

If you want to get on the list contact me (or your local country host - see below)

My thanks to John Pitman for comissioning and loaning the tap
My thanks to Ernie Byrnes who actually made the tap
My thanks to Ed Scherer for donating a 21/32" drill
Plus my thanks to those who have set up group use sessions to maximize coverage...

PM your contact info: name, email, address, phone

Updated Scandinavia/Europe list is now: Country Hosts Michel - you willing to host for France?

0) NoVector - Bruce - Kaiserslautern, Germany (enroute travel primarily)
1) Vilhuer - Erkka - Helsinki, Finland
2) Pevi - Pekka - Paimio, Finland
3) Froggy shark - Michel - Arras, France (May: Amicale General Assembly)
4) NoVector - Bruce - Kaiserslautern, Germany (May: Sharks in Hunsrück)
5) Leon Speed - Aryan - Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
6) FUSE69 - Ben - Sweden (pushed you later only due to the events in France/Germany)
7) UK interest is arriving now... via Angus

Not sure if you need this ? - go out & see if you can remove your front towing eye bung - don't wait till you need it in an emergency...!

This tap fits all that have the threaded tow eye connector in the grille area, it doesn't fit the early cars with the connector protected behind a flap in the front bumper (those are usually well protected and typically OK).

If you can set up a local "group fix it session" - publicize it locally in advance...

Goal here is to get cars fixed - that's all... The more we can do, in the same time, at the least cost to all - the better... Please take pictures & make notes on results & techniques - & post back here...

Alan

Hi Allan!

I'm currently expecting an answer from one of my business suppliers that is involved in taps, spinneret and drill production, he's a Porsche owner and I think he will be able to make us a very good offer on a bunch of taps, so that the Club could buy them and make them avalaible for their members on the long term.

Dunno yet about the delivery date if we choose this option, nor the price, but I'll let you know asap what is our position for hosting John's tap in France.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Michel

Hi, I could check with the Dutch 928 owners club and have connections with the French 928 club. So if I can help, please let me know.

Hi Alan,
no, I had my fun with a drill and steel toothpick to remove the corroded tow hook plug. It is fine now. But for those who do not have the patience and tools to clean the threads the tool is an easy way to do it. I can check with the Dutch and French club and see if they want to join your list.
