Default The real reason for discontinuing the 928

They ran out of room to stuff computers and other crap. Good Lord. Just got done fishing out the drivers side airbag connector and had to remove 1/2 the car to get to it.

So that's how I came to this conclusion. Nothing to do with sales volume, EPA, new 911....nothing like that. They just couldn't stuff one more damn thing in there.

No, that's not it. They started to redesign the electrical system in an effort to simplify it but couldn't because nobody understood the current one!

The Great Relay Shortage of 1995 was the killer. Worldwide, electrical relay makers simply could not ramp up production fast enough. The 928 with it's over 7000 relays simply overwhelmed factory capacities.

The real reason was MB stopped supply of A/Ts, and there was a shortage of 5 speed trannies to fill the gap

My guess is that the reason for timing was poor sales combined with the OBD 2 standard in the US which is related to the electrical system.

Isn't the real answer that it didn't make any money and they wanted to make the Boxster instead?

I think there's a little room still available under the dead-pedal near the central warning system

I thought it was because all of the production elves with 7" long fingers shaped like curved needle-nose pliers with the wrist strength of a 200# torque wrench all died.

No it was because of the insulated air inlet tubes were getting too expensive to procure and therefore the profit margin got reduced substantially.

No, no, there was a forest fire causing a short supply of the only Porsche engineering feature made of wood: the CE panel cover...

No - it can't have been that because by then they had shifted to using readily available garbage bags & sticky tape to finish these off - of course that reengineering did bump the price up a little bit as you say...
