This surprised a fellow 928 owner in Austria when doing an oil pan gasket.

the rag was a freeby with every 5th box of oil; just didnt come with the idiot instruction not to add to the filler.

probably adds to torque or horsepower or something!

The owner reported normal oil pressure. He thinks the rag was wrapped around the pick up during a previous pan drop.

Mayday, mayday, Greg, we've been outed! This is the real 'special sauce' for curing the 'fill the heads with oil at high rpm' issue. A good microfiber wrapped twice around the pickup drops the oil pump output just enough, and its edges help 'wick' oil back into the pan. Make sure you clip off the 'made in China' tag before installation, we lost one engine on the dyno when that tore loose and plugged the filter.

There is no worse feeling than tightening down your oil filler neck and water bridge then wondering, "Did I remove the rag I stuffed in there"?

I didn't check, because I was pretty sure I did. Either I was right, or there is a windage/ scraper rag on my #2 counterweight.
