The orig Weird Science Ferrari is a Mondial cab. I have one exactly like the first pic, so I could do the correct tribute with Seans car. Maybe we'll do that this Sat.
The Mondial also needs belt changes regularly. It has two timing belts on the right side of the car in front of the rear wheel. It takes about 6 hours to do them, mostly because it takes 3 hours to move the damn AC compressor. Belts are $42 each, tension rollers are $133, and the water pump rides on its own belt so just gets inspected. I've done about 7 Mondial/308s now and I'm getting pretty good at it.
Allen hasn't mentioned the unmentionable issue with the 355 valves, seats and guides. It's a pisser.

Nobody replaces that F1 actuator assembly. People get the actuators rebuilt or get them off a used car. Much, much cheaper.
I'm kind of surprised as well that the valve guides and issues weren't mentioned.. esp since the guides aren't available from Ferrari... The 355 I've met have ALL been in the shop more than they've been on the road. They dramatically bumped horsepower from teh 348, but reliability was diminished.. :-(

Well if you ever need to race the two let me know. I'd be happy to drive either for you ;-)
"He don't even have a licence Lisa!"
"Chips, dips, chains, whips"
Weird Science is definitely worth watching!

That's good to know. Fortunately mine's still working fine.

BTW, I have some 355 wheels that I don't need if you want to buy a spare. I think I have 3 rear and no front. Not sure if they will fit under my Mondial with tires. Sigh....

To be honest I should probably mention the down side of the 355. Like the 928, it requires regular cam belts changes (Ferrari recommends every three years).
But to do it, the entire drivetrain has to come out! Here's mine being done:
Most other models can be done without engine removal. Oh well, at least my Ferrari experience makes Porsche parts seem reasonably priced in comparison.
Check out this bad boy for example (a transmission part which I will hopefully never need to replace):

Took the engine out to tune it up, natch.
