I'm dying to know why there's a box of "hot wheels cars" on the floor, LOL.

The orig Weird Science Ferrari is a Mondial cab. I have one exactly like the first pic, so I could do the correct tribute with Seans car. Maybe we'll do that this Sat.

The Mondial also needs belt changes regularly. It has two timing belts on the right side of the car in front of the rear wheel. It takes about 6 hours to do them, mostly because it takes 3 hours to move the damn AC compressor. Belts are $42 each, tension rollers are $133, and the water pump rides on its own belt so just gets inspected. I've done about 7 Mondial/308s now and I'm getting pretty good at it.

Allen hasn't mentioned the unmentionable issue with the 355 valves, seats and guides. It's a pisser.

Nobody replaces that F1 actuator assembly. People get the actuators rebuilt or get them off a used car. Much, much cheaper.

I'm kind of surprised as well that the valve guides and issues weren't mentioned.. esp since the guides aren't available from Ferrari... The 355 I've met have ALL been in the shop more than they've been on the road. They dramatically bumped horsepower from teh 348, but reliability was diminished.. :-(

Sorry, but in "Weird Science" Kelly Lebrock was the highlight....just sayin, lol.

Great collection, I am jealous.

Well if you ever need to race the two let me know. I'd be happy to drive either for you ;-)

Weird Science is definitely worth watching!

That would be cool! I've always liked Mondials.

My understanding is that the valve guide issue affected the earlier model year 355s. Mine is from near the end of production so maybe Ferrari got some of the bugs out by then. I've put about 21K miles on her so far and reliability has been great. The main issue I've encountered is that occasionally the upshift paddle wouldn't trigger a shift, requiring multiple clicks (very annoying when you're accelerating at high rpm). I was finally able to fix it by spraying CRC contact cleaner on the paddle microswitch.

That's good to know. Fortunately mine's still working fine.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that too! Kind of appropriate though - the Ferrari is basically a toy after all.

Actually they were using the box to save the old parts:

Well, we will see what we will see. So far, all cars are under the service bulletin.

BTW, I have some 355 wheels that I don't need if you want to buy a spare. I think I have 3 rear and no front. Not sure if they will fit under my Mondial with tires. Sigh....

But to do it, the entire drivetrain has to come out! Here's mine being done:

Most other models can be done without engine removal. Oh well, at least my Ferrari experience makes Porsche parts seem reasonably priced in comparison.
Check out this bad boy for example (a transmission part which I will hopefully never need to replace):
Oh yes, been there done that Bought an 8k mile 355F1 Spider from a dead guy ( cool car guy, rip ) and blasted up to Seattle from Palm Springs Summer/'09. THAT was a FUN trip lol.

Took the engine out to tune it up, natch.
