Which, I don't expect to get a ready to run car for that price. It's just one of the only two or three that are advertised locally so it was a good starting point.

I fully intend on spending more than that.

You are getting some sage advice and doing the right thing- asking questions and reading up to help you figure out which of the common maladies are more superficial, which are easy fixes, and those that you can and can not live with. You'll be able hunt down a Euro if you are patient. Sometimes the color preference narrows the field a lot...and your trans preference does, too. But if that's what you want, just keep at it. Will probably be a slug of cars hitting hte market in the spring again.

A good deal on an S4 car for someone that doesnt mind getting a little dirty with refreshing electrical connections and annoying interior trim issues...

IMHO, $6k car, given what it needs and massaged out of it to run right.

The shifter slop was most likely the bushing that sits on top of the transaxle in the rear. At least mine was anyway. After changing it my shifter feel went from feeling like a worn out truck to back to new. The ball cup under the shift boot could be worn too but either way it would not be a deal breaker for a car that was otherwise good.

I haven't read the other posts, but my advice is to avoid Ebay and Auto Trader. I found my 928 by posting in the classifieds on this forum. Good luck!

Drive any 5 speed S4 or later before you decide. Just no comparison from a power/torque standpoint, not to mention brakes. No mods needed. I found mine 6 miles from home in the local newspaper classifieds.

rlich8, I have an '85 928 S2 red/tan for sale. The car is all original with 44K on it. If interested you can search for it on Craigslist in San Antonio. Email me @ dpierce2@satx.rr.com and I'll send you my phone # if you want to discuss it.

Thanks!

I would not avoid ebay. I've bought and sold some great cars on ebay over the years. Below are a few beauties that sold in the last year and there are more than a few outstanding 928's on ebay right now. T

I figured as much that it was some sort of bushing. Not a big deal, but the rest of the car was just tired in general, ya know? I am still learning the 928, but I can tell when a car is tired...and this car was certainly tired. Likely a hard 115,000 miles.

Electrical issues and interior issues don't really scare me - it's the heavily modified thing that does. I'm old-school---original is the only way to go in my mind. That school of thought is not for everyone, though.

Yeah, that's healthy money for a tired OB. I would sell my 78 Euro #579 in that ballpark, and alot of it has been gone thru.

Car #579 That's neat.

I passed on a 55k original mile 79. If that car were a 1980 S, I'd have been on a plane to DC in a heartbeat.

I'm hopefully looking at a 1983 S, gold, 5 speed, today.
