Default what does this mean?

I was driving spiritedly taking a sweeping 90 degree curve (over a half a mile) with comfort and ease when a message blaired out at me "differential control off".

I noticed no drivability issues, nor over the rest of the 100mile trip either....

I have a 93 gts...

any one know what that means besides the obvious...???

thanks in advance

the diff is a 2.2 on the gts tranny that has extra discs to help handle the added hp ...transmission fluid on the full mark when I arrived home....any thoughts??

Hey Lizard , I see in your signature that you have a crankcase pump installed , does this mean to depressurize the crankcase and allow the oil not pack in the heads as easy ..??

I am coming to hate the 'DCO' (Diff Control Off) message, mine is intermittently intermittent. Today it was set off by hitting an expansion seam on an overpass, and I lost my speedometer for a while, then it was bouncing around, then went back to zero. Restarting the car cleared the fault. Loose wire somewhere....

Sometimes a smoky burnout helps get it back, I suggest you give it a try ....

It could really be anything (pump, sensors, etc, etc) but it's telling you it can't 'do its thing', so it stops trying, instead of going through an infinite number of attempts ... until you go through an ignition start again.

I use the vacuum pump to pull a vacuum in the crankcase, and then yes use that said vacuum to pull oil out of the heads. It does help the rings to seal as well for adding power.

The PSD (locking differential) system had some sort of a malfunction and shut down. If the system failed to "read" one of the sensors, a ABS malfunction light should have also come on.

Restarting the car should reset the system.

Go out and try it again. If you keep getting that message, the first thing to try is to clean all the contacts and connectors with some sort of a high quality contact cleaner/oil.

Suggest cleaning the contacts on the lateral acceleration sesnor connector under the passenger seat.

There's a post somewhere about cleaning the lateral acceleration sensor. They are pricey and cleaning would be my first choice. Rob Edwards was in the thread so you could search with him and lateral as your search terms.

Any pics that show this unit? I just had the passenger seat removed to have a keyless entry system installed.

I've been getting the Diff message for awhile now - assumed it meant I needed to flush the PSD, which is way overdue.

Post #41. Sean's instructions are below that post.

Would certainly, of course, service the PSD as well.

People might be interested to know I have developed a modern replacement for the LAS, which will sell at a much lower price than the Bosch device.... it is being put into production now.
