Default Oil Pump compatibility question

I have an early oil pump from a '78.

Can I use it on an 80-83 M28-11 block?

TIA

In theory no - early number is 928 107 018 06 later number 928 107 018 07. The early does not supercede to the later number.

In practice maybe but I have never tried it.

I remember someone suggesting that the very early water pumps do not have the same idler mounting?

there are issues with the pressure channels and and shaft seal........use the wrong pump in the wrong block and it blows out the shaft seal shoots oil all over !!!! It has been discussed here before. The pumps just look much the same until you KNOW what you are looking at

Well then - that is embarrassing. You mean the water pump and oil pump are not interchangeable?

hummm, the PET seems to say for the M28/11 block, 928 107 018 06 was used up to 821 0657 and then switched to use 928 107 018 07 afterwards in that same engine type.
